Scabious-Flowered Zinnia 'Scabiosaflora Mix' (Zinnia hybrid)

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

Tyke,

That scabiosa flowered zinnia looks fantastic! A really exotic flower form and a nice pastel color. Where did you get the seeds for it? I got a package of pastel mix from Parks Seeds but haven't planted them yet. The ones I tried from Thompson & Morgan were mostly singles and not true to type. I want to grow some specimens like your picture and maybe cross them with some other zinnias. Do you start your zinnias early inside? I notice you are from a colder climate like me.

Hello,
Sorry it's taken so long to answer your ?....been busy making Christmas presents and haven't even checked this site for ages. I got mine from Park Seeds...it was called scabiosa flowered zinnia, pastel mix....they were fantastic but actually most were bright colors...very hot almost flouresant oranges, pinks etc...I loved them and they bloomed and bloomed all summer....most, I'd say 85% were full and ruffled but a few were singles. I did start them inside the middle of April....good luck with yours...you'll love them.....Merry Christmas, Anita

We grew these for our customers this past year and they make terrific cut flowers! They bloom like crazy. I just love 'em!

Anita,

Thanks for your response. I understand the busy Christmas season. It's odd that they call it a pastel mix if so many colors were not pastel. But just one good one like the picture you posted would be worth it. I would save seeds from it to try to get more like it or similar. I think zinnias have a lot of undeveloped potential and this exotic bloom just proves that. I look forward to planting my Scabiosa Flowered zinnias from Parks Seeds this year. I will start them inside for a head start. Maybe I will be posting some pictures after they bloom. Thanks for sharing your picture. It was like a "pep talk" for my gardening. Happy holidays!

MM
