Musella lasiocarpa

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Looking for someone in zone 8 or lower that has this planted IN the ground and it has over-wintered and bloomed. If you've done this, please share with me your growing experience.

Trish, I can let you know!!!! I have one growing up against my house. Am hoping that it is close enough to the house to be in a microclimate. It is growing well right now. We shall see what this winter holds. Did you plant one too?

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Trish,
I have one of these growing in the front of the house. I would have shown you if I thought you had any interest. Unlike Lisa's, mine is completely exposed. It's supposed to be winter hardy in our zone so I'm not too worried about it. We'll see what happens.

Good luck with yours Lisa.

This plant is hardy to zone7 or roughly 18 f. If you're in zone 8, you should have no problem with it

Trish, I'm in zone 7 and mine have survived in the ground for 3 yrs. now. The first year, I made a cage of chicken wire and filled with pine straw. Then, the next winter I got brave and just mulched them well with pine straw after clipping off the frosted leaves and they have done fine.

Wow Jj, those are beauts? Have they bloomed for you? That is what I want to see mine do.

Thanks rylaff! They certainly make a statement in the garden. No blooms yet tho.

Okay... JJ that is what I am really after... if you live in a zone 8a and lower and it has bloomed with it being planted in the ground.... I've read or been told that a banana will bloom in its 2nd or 3rd year.. but it can't freeze back...

I think I'll keep this one in a pot so I can see it bloom.
