Mints

Colorado Springs, CO

I am venturing away, not too far, from the flowers and into the herbs. I figured mints would be a great start as I use them often but I have been searching...in vain, I might add...for mint seeds online. I am looking for the fun ones like chocolate, banana, pineapple, orange and apple. Does anyone know where to find these seeds or have any they would like to trade? I would be thankful for any information.

God bless,

I have several different mints if you would like to trade. If you don't have anything to trade I will send them to you.

FYI - I grew some banana mint last year and I thought the smell was nasty. It reminded of me the really bad artificial banana flavoring you find in candy. I wasn't sad at all when it got a disease and died. (The only sickly mint I've ever seen...) If you can't find it, I wouldn't worry about it too much. =)

Also, I remember reading that it's best to propagate mints from cuttings. Apparently mints grown from seed can have inferior flavor... kind of "gamey". Maybe this is why you aren't seeing many seed sources.

I have some chocolate mint, but it looks like you've got that covered. Let me know if you ever do want cuttings.

I also wanted to add my favorite source for starts of the 'fun' mints, organically grown...

I have plenty of chocolate I can share and might also be able to find you some corsican, apple, bowles apple, yerbabuena, and spearmint. I plant mint in all my flowerbeds.....supposed to help with bugs.
