Hmmm. No I dont think so. Love Lies Bleeding is one of mums favourites.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Boy, the colors sure look tropical anyway but thanks for the info crimsontsavo

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I thought it was an annual.

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

Isn't that a Chenille Plant? (common name)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe I should put this in the ID forum. I hac some unlabled seeds and planted them. This is what I got. A very nice surprise, don't you think?

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

If it truly is love lies bleeding, then it is an Amaranthus, I believe is the botanical, and I think those are annuals. If it is a chenille plant, then it is sorta tropical, right?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Looks like my 'Love Lies Bleeding', which for me in zone 8b is a reseeding annual....grew for me in Iowa too.

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

Love Lies Bleeding is an amaranthus, which is an annual.

Chenille Plant is Acalypha hispida (though, the common name is thrown on several of the species). Acalyphas are tropicals.

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

It is 'Kiss Me Over The Garden Gate', very easy to confuse the two names.
Latin Name: Polygonum Orientale

I don't know if it is tropical. Reseeds here all over the place.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I don't believe it to be 'Kiss me', as the blooms are more compact as of 'Love Lies'.......................

Looks like Chenille to me. Do I get a cutting if I'm right?

OK I take it back - Chenille blooms single spikes from the stalk; yours has divided flowers - can I change my vote to amaranthus? They've been hybridizing amaranthus like crazy lately - all kinds of new variations coming out. This one is really nice. Save those seeds!!!!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

How do I collect the seeds on this one and from Where. Are they below the bloom?
Jan

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Delph: you are so right, they have so many new amaranthus out. I change my vote to Amaranthus too.
Found a pic of my Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate from last year. They are blooming now, but couldn't get a decent pic. yet.

Tombstonejan: The seeds are in the bloom. Take a white paper plate and shake the bloom over the plate. If tiny round orange to beige seeds fall on it, they are ready to harvast. Cut the whole blooming tassel off into a brown paper grocery sack and let dry, then shake after the bloom is dry and the seed comes out.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

some people (no one I know of course) thinks this plant is used for cosmetic purposes.

Wow Debby, what kind of tree is that in the back ground? The one with all the white flowers. Gorgeous.

Thanks for the info on the seeds. I will be harvesting some soon. Jan

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

Hahaha Lisa - remind me not to use your hair stylist.

Hey what is that tree anyway???? Or is it a jasmine?

Keep me in mind for some seeds if you get them - only takes a few - amaranth are good at survival!

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Tombstonejan: The white plant is a Sweet Autumn Clematis Vine.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

That looks like a huge sweet autumn clematis in bloom to me, lol, but I might be wrong, I have been once before.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

Only once?!!!
dd

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Yep, only once.

Oh, I have a bridge to sell you, also.

uhmmm..pssst ...(in a whisper) diva, that aint me in the hyperlink pic, if it is, I better go for a shave ;0)--

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL - you gals crack me up! Lisa I just figured maybe that was why you lived on a dead end street...

Tombstone maybe we can trade seeds - here's another amaranthus from Select Seeds called Burgundy Supercrest...can't wait till I get some seeds from this baby. That bloom is 10 inches high and 8 wide on a 2 foot plant. I'm really getting into the whole A. family - they just thrive on heat.

delph: I've never seen them with such long necks. It almost looks like a chicken that you tried to pull off its head and stretched its neck instead. LoL.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

They ARE kind of funny looking - though the chicken thing never occurred to me. Somehow I think "Stretched Chicken Neck" has less marketing potential than Supercrest! LOL:() So now we know what Debby does in her spare time...
