at the local Great Canadian Superstore! When I saw it I thought it looked like something PanamonCreel would like!?! I didn't have a camera with me but it's the first plant pictured (Nepenthes 'Alata'): http://davesgarden.com/t/421817/
I figure it must be somewhat rare because there aren't too many hits when I do a search here.
Look what's for sale in the middle of nowhere...
Well it's certainly rare up here Pam, good catch! Lucky Girl!
:) I'm beginning to think I'm living somewhere else...first I find a P.Vitifolia (a huge one) and now this! :D
Pretty soon you will be sending tropicals we can't get south!
LOL ... I would love to do that! :D
lilypon, you sure do go for the exotics. I'm doing well if I keep my passion vines going through the winter. Some caladiums if they look worth keeping and a few callas. That's going to be it for me. And outside I'm starting to think 'live or die' is the way to go. Getting sick of spraying for fungus and all the other [deleted] this year.
You're lucky that you can grow caladiums echoes. I have spent a small fortune over the years trying to grow them. It just doesn't get hot enough here for them but I love them.
Pam, maybe all these exotics have been around you all along but you haven't noticed them before. I can remember when I had my AH HAH moment ~ it was when I made the connection that tropicals up here are considered house plants and started looking in the houseplant sections of nurseries.
Trust me they are new to here ... unless they came in a very small shipment that sold out right away before. This one had the African Mask, Cardboard Palm, and 50 of the Nepenthes. When we lived in North Battleford we would hit every major greenhouse and tropical plant supplier from there down to Moose Jaw (including Regina's Lakeview and Saskatoon's Dutch Grower's) every trip. The same old, same old was only broken up with an occassional Dutchman's Pipe vine or a rare few $65.00 small passion vines (but only in Saskatoon). Regina's Lakeview has a nice sized tropical plant greenhouse but the same plants used to show up in it every year...this year it is different! :D
Lilypon
What was the price tag on that Nepenthes? I may have to do a run to MJ.
It is 19.99 nevrest! :D I wonder if Regina's Superstore would have some in? Not to discourage you from seeing my garden but between working at my parent's burnt out house and the hail we just received...it really isn't at it's best!! Never mind the poor Brugs, of which the last one (the monster) just came home today...fun trying to shove it into the car. :S
