Lilypon-How are your brugs??

North Saanich, Canada

Hey Pam. Just checking to see how your brugs are coming along. MIne are doing great. Have three of the four with blooms starting, and they are all about 2 feet high. Have another one only about a foot high, and they were all planted at the same time. Also have a datura about 18 inches high, that has one bloom coming on it. I cant' believe the size of leaves on all these plants this year. They are huge!!!

Hey Glenda :D
I wish they were doing that good! Our weather hasn't been too conducive to anything growing fast...everything is just sitting esp brugs and tomatoes. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your babies blooms tho'!

I will surely post some pictures when the big day happens!! Are you in the area of rain, rain, rain this year?? Even we are getting more rain than usual, and cool weather. But things are looking up in the next couple of days!!!
Sounds like the Eston area has some great crops this year, a big change from the last two years anyway!!

They have good gumbo there so I imagine if rain has fallen they will do very well! We've had more rain then I care to remember and tho' it didn't rain much today some nasty black clouds went over us. People in the library are just saying we have two seasons now...winter and spring. :b

I wonder how jagonjune is doing...DH just called me to see the news....Edmonton got hit really hard. The hail looked to be the size of golf balls! :(

Yes, I saw that on the news. WEst Edmonton Mall is a big mess. They said somethign about 7 million dollars damage. WOW!!! That's a lot of damage. I have a sister in law in Spruce Grove, just outside of Edmonton, but haven't talked to her to see if they got it!!

Yes, I was just there in mid-June when mother in law from Eston was here. She likes to go every time she is here. We have a yearly pass, for 35.00. We can go whenever we want which is a great deal!! This year is the 100th birthday so they are having special events. I think the symphony is there next month. There is also a totem pole being carved right on site, that will be put up in the gardens somewhere. It always amazes me every time I go!!!

It's a dream of mine - I must go there some day! Have a sis and bro in Surrey and sis's in-laws are on the island - so-o-o jealous!

You want to see brugs? Here is a pic of the brug I got in June. It has a few leaves now, but no growth on top. It was supposed to be a white sauveolens, but they sent Charles Grimaldi as a sub. No, I wasn't happy, I'm waiting to see if I get credit on my card.

Did you order it from Harborcrest? That's the kind of plant they send...tho' I have seen that some people have received theirs rooted upside down!! :(

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

kooger you will have to make a trip there!

No, it came from Guru Garden, Lilypon.

Editing this post for posterity, in the event that someone digs it back up.
This thread was put to rest a couple of years ago, but I changed my mind about posting after I read Marilena’s post in the GardenWatchdog recently. http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/3667/
After noticing these mean comments Marilena made, about the posters that said they didn’t receive their order from another vendor in the Watchdog, I remembered her comments in this thread.

I decided to post to the forum after giving it a lot of thought. People sometimes post information that is totally untrue or skewed – this is one such instance.
About 3 weeks ago, I fell on this thread. As one of the employees/owners of Guru Garden, I feel I should respond to the damaging and misleading information and pictures posted by Echoes.

For sure she is right on this because her information is at least partially untrue and quite skewed. First, she was an owner of Guru Garden, plain and simple, not an employee. I said the bugmansia came form there, had been subbed and I was waiting for a refund at the time. This was true, not misleading information, and not nearly as damaging as what I’d have liked to say.

Looking back, I suppose a large part of the problem was a tempting catalogue full of pictures of wonderful plants that were for a large part not suppliable, at least not all at the same time. Easy to put up a catalogue of plants you just hope to be able to get from your suppliers.

To begin with, Echoes never received the Brugmansia directly from Guru Gardens. She ordered the plant through a group order of about 20 different people and received it after the plant had passed hands 3 times. The plant we sent was knee-high and the reason she took this photograph is because of the conversation we had together to resolve the issue of the Brugmansia. She wanted to show me what she had received because I was shocked that this type of plant had been given to her

Guru Garden did send a Charles Grimaldi after discussing it and receiving approval to do so from the individual who was handling the order. We had a crop failure on the white Brugmansias and unfortunately there were very few available. From the time of receipt of the order by the person who ordered the plants to the time Echoes received it, 10 days had passed. What happened to the plant we sent is a mystery. In the meantime, Echoes was given a full refund - even for plants she had received that were in perfect condition and an apology. There is really nothing else we could do to rectify the situation. .

Marilena didn’t mention that the person handling the group order here was employed by Guru Garden, by contract or whatever. This whole fiasco need never have blown out of proportion. All I ever wanted was a refund for the plants that weren’t shipped and for the plants that were dead or dying. Some of my plants from a personal order with GG were mixed in with the group order and there were miscommunications and problems with both orders. I fully understood that things can go wrong at the vendor’s end and was quite happy with her attempts to make things right, but never asked for, nor expected miracles. Then this thread was forgotten as it drifted off the page. In fact, had she asked me privately to update this thread or edit my post, I would have done so gladly. Instead, we were subjected to a very un-business like rant in a thread. Not really so surprising, considering the dysfunctional way she handled things.

Gladly, of the 20 people who ordered through this group, only 3 (Inanda, Echoes and another individual) had problems. Everyone else was completely satisfied with their purchases.

Or nobody else bothered to complain about their order.

I was really sad that this escalated to this level. It was certainly not my intention to upset Marilena, or to have her spend such a huge sum on postage, trying to get the order right. Of course what is seen here is just the tip of an iceberg, with a lot of she said, she said. Not the way I would want to do business with any vendor.

jagonjune I hope you post soon!

Echoes, that is still a most miz. looking brug.

Well, seeing that you are mentioning names, I won't be ordering from GG any more. had great seeds but potted plant -echevaria - arrived all mashed up. Did get a replacement but came very late when I was away so it sat in box in hot!! sun for a couple of days. Had never heard anything but good reports about GG in the past.

On the other hand, had a couple of rotted bulbs from Botanus. Replacement AND refund to my credit card - semi instantly. Botanus is top of my shopping list these days.

I have been a member of Dave's Garden for about 1 year and find that there is loads of useful information on this forum. I normally don't post to forums and usually like to read other people's posts. Unless I have something positive or informative to contribute, I prefer to read and learn from others.

I decided to post to the forum after giving it a lot of thought. People sometimes post information that is totally untrue or skewed – this is one such instance.

As far Inanda's comment, she too was part of the same group order. She was well aware that a succulent was in the mail and that it would be inappropriate to go on vacation. Most companies would have simply refunded this lady's $ 4.00 order. Instead, we chose to resend the plant directly to her even if she hadn't initially paid shipping charges. To say that we lost time and money on this group order would be an understatement.

Gladly, of the 20 people who ordered through this group, only 3 (Inanda, Echoes and another individual) had problems. Everyone else was completely satisfied with their purchases.

Just wondering can we grow these indoors?
