Am I gonna be a momma?

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

I am a newbie-brug-grower, and have three little brugs in containers. In-between raindrops this afternoon, I scooted outside just to have a look-see around the garden.

I glanced over at the brugs and thought, "What are those things hanging on my brugs?" There are three, long tubular things hanging from the peach versicolor. The bottom of the tubular things are 'ruffly' and it appears as if these buds(?) are trying to open and bloom.

Are these going to be blossoms?

(sorry for the poor picture -- it's still raining -- my neighbors must think I'm loopy, taking a photo in the rain. LOL)

p.s., wanted to add im so jealous of your persian shield. I've tried it 3x and killed them all ; (

Jen, did you keep the Persian Shield in shade/partial-shade and give it adequate water? Should be okay in your Zone. I can take a cutting if you'd like to try again.

Isn't giving birth a wonderful experience. LOL! Bet you will love your new baby.

I still remember the excitement of MY first bloom...so I understand how you feel...Now you are hooked like the rest of us..LOL

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

Hooked is right! Probably even more so after I see an actual flower (never seen one "in person" before) and get to smell the blossom.

If they actually open, then I will feel like a "real" brug-grower! LOL.

SHE BLOOMED!

Pictures are not the best-quality. These were taken early this morning and the sun wasn't quite up, but the humidity was... enough to fog the lens.

This is the first time I have EVER seen a brug "in-person."

This peach versicolor does not look like the picture on the auction page where I bought it :D It looks rather pale.

But I am thrilled to finally actually see and smell a brug blossom. Smells like baby-powder.

edited to add:

Perhaps if I give them some attention and fertilizer, instead of just occasional water, they might look better?

It's a beauty Jean and it'll probably have more color this evening. After you savor the aroma you will be irrevocably hooked!

Jean, it is lovely, I'm sooooooo happy for you!! They often get more color, the longer they bloom, and I've had them turn really dark toward the end; however, I don't know what the heat will do to them. I 'think' tomorrow, I'll have 5 or 6 different plants in bloom. I cannot wait!!!! Now, if I could figure out how to stagger them so I will have at least one blooming all season....

Pretty. Don't you just love to stick your nose in them? I just came in from doing it.

Had to chuckle. My neighbors probably already think I'm nuts because I 'night-garden' and sometimes sit on my back step (in my nightgown) and have a cup of morning tea (the yard is not really open to a lot of their view, thank goodness). Now, every time I'm out in the garden, I have this big flower stuck on my face. LOL.
