My girlfriend and I drove down to the San Juan Isles, in the state of Washington on Sat.took the Keystone to Port Townsend ferry, then down to Bainbridge Island, where the gdn tour was held...Took in one, should have been two( monsooned, oh boy!) on the Northern part of the Island, overnighted, and then on to the Southern Island, three more...........the best and most unique one, a quarter acre spread, dressed in some of the most unusual plant material, I have encountered as yet.......eg, Magnoia Mycrophylla(specimen tree), oodles of Euphorbia "Wulfenii"(these had to be on STEROIDS), huge shrubs, around 5' high!, and a patio and sunroom to die for...Liz, every kind of banana, agave, aloe, colocasia, succulents, etc., all in clay pots and containers...........can you imagine a cobalt blue painted wall behind a lime-green Davidia tree, with the tallest tree peonies, I've ever seen??????????? .......well I took pictures, right left and centre! Apparently, the owner, quite a gal, in her fifties, has a crew come in two days before the tour to do some emergency maintenance on the larger shrubs, yet after that, she does it herself........apparently she has since written 6, maybe, 8 books on gdning..her name is Linda Cochran. Hidden in the billowing, tall, blonde grasses is a sculpture of a lioness and her cub, in between her legs, which you can only see, if you're on one side of the garden......other garden chutch-ka include some brightly coloured concrete eggs, around 3' tall.........talk about an artist's eye........she is also a professional photographer...A plant sale was in progress on the property also...oh.......the tropicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we couldn't take any home! You can tell, this was definitely our absolute favourite garden of all! So I'll bring up some of the photos, and you can judge for yourselves.............Elaine
gdn tour!
We really, really want to see them. Sounds like you had a fantastic trip. :)
I'll send the rest later on..this is time consuming........I'm trying to figure out how to set this up on a slide show here.....be back.......Elaine

Thank you for the pictures...now I have to interlibrary loan some books in. :D
LOL, still in the library business Pam?
I knew I'd seen that garden somewhere. I wonder if Hobbs put it in the Jewel Box Garden too.
Elaine, I love the gleditzia. I've never heard of anyone spiralling one. What a job that must be. After seeing your pic I thought I can do that with my pseudoacacia frisia. Saner heads prevailed. I'd bleed to death from all the thorns.
Those chairs really stand out don't they? Can you see them from the blue wall?
Now, I can't remember if they can be seen from the patio...but directly across from the blue wall are 4 lime-green wooden chairs! I would think they took long handled cutters and designed it that way, Liz!
Nice tour Elaine, thanks.
That is soooooooo hot!! :D
Love the chairs. And I'm an absolute sucker for small courtyards.
I like the chairs too. Great colours. Maybe when our chairs get older my DH will let me paint them. Must be a guy thing, gotta see the wood.
Thanks for the pics - gives us the feel of a garden tour without leaving home. After the last two weeks I'm beginning to believe that I will never get out of here again.
Thanks for sharing Elaine..some beautiful shots.
I can't help thinking about how much hard work must have gone into all the "hardscaping" in the last couple of photos.
Cheers,
Carol
Now thats what I call a pond!! Can I have one??
