Yes, the *feathers* on the wings! Far out!

I'm not sure I've seen them at the roses, but then I have so many salvias and other lamaceae, and other "throated" flowers, they may just choose them first (or have to spend more time going flower-to-flower, so I see them there more).

My resident family feed off my salvias I've even seen them at my Russian sage - one little bloom at a time. I've never hung a feeder as I'm a space case and wouldn't want some little bird counting on me. But DD says with all the flowers they get enough... and there's plenty of insects for them to catch.
Wonder if the hummer in your pic was getting an ant or aphid instead of ?
