Brugie gave this to me at the Iowa RU. She grew it from seed that she collected last year from her own canna's.
Wow!! Can't wait for the bloom on this canna, if it is anything like the foliage it will be awesome.
Brugie's Own Canna Seedling
Wow Debby, the foliage is just beautiful!!! Please....keep us posted when it blooms. Do you know what the seed was from? The foliage looks a lot like Canna Australia.
Wow that is beautiful.
It sure does Brinda, good eye,I have some of her seedlings going, nothing this dark,I can't wait to see them bloom!
Gosh! Congratulations on growing this beauty, and congratulations on the cross Shirley!
Wouldn't white flowers on a dark foliage be awesome!! Good luck..keep us posted.
I didn't have any C. Australia last year. Don't ask me what I did have. This spring when I was planting, I was getting so tired of digging holes that I just stuck them in without tags on most of them. I do see a couple out there with dark foliage though. I think all of them came from Horn Canna Farms last year. It does look very nice Deb. Hope the bloom will be as pretty. White would be awesome, Kyle.
Hmmm....will be interesting to see what it is. And yes, white would be just awesome!!! Wow....imagine that! My Australia is blooming now, with really red blooms.
OK I always though cannas were weeds (ducking rocks) till I saw this. I never have seen a canna so dark leaved! Now I want some! What varieties should I look for - doesn't have to be a fab as yours Debbie but just want that burgandy leaf look. Sorry to sound so ignorant but I am a canna virgin. ;)
Go here....she has some beauties! And you can also view by foliage color! http://www.karcheskycanna.com/
Here is a list of the only cannas I had last year that had dark foliage Deb. Don't know if that will help ID this seedling since it is more than likely a cross.
Black Knight
Red King Humbert
Wyoming
Pink Dawn
Thanks Brinda! :)))
This is a real nice one Brugie!
Thanks. Let's just hope Deb gets some nice bloom on it too.
So Brugie, trade you a canna for a Kong??? :)))
Liz, my cannas are just now blooming and I sure don't have one with this very dark foliage. I am glad that Deb kept this seedling going. She does have some nice foliage there. This fall I might have some extra cannas if you still need them. Right now, they are buried so deep in the beds, I'm not sure I could even get to them to dig. LOL! In this picture, taken about a month ago, things didn't look as crowded as they do now. Wish I had a recent picture to show you what kind of trouble I'm in here. I do have about 15 kinds of cannas, so let me know later if you want some. However, right now I think I better stick with the original plan for the Kongs. Thanks.
Brugie I think you just took the prize for Most Plants in One Picture! My beds suddenly look all empty and forlorn. Bet you don't get many weeds in that one!
You got that right....this spring when there was empty space, I did get a lot of maple tree seedlings, not by choice. Since it is filled in, no weeds, trees, nothing...obnoxious. Just nice plants that got way bigger than I wanted them too. Hidden in every spare speck of space are sun loving coleus. The poor things aren't getting as much sun as they would like, but I can't move them now. There are about 50 sun lovers in my main bed and the one by the deck this year. I went coleus nuts I think, but mainly because of Kyle. He brought me 35 of the most beautiful plants this spring. Most were in six inch pots and huge. Guess that is mainly why there are no weeds. The coleus are just growing like them. Here is a picture of my back deck. You can't see the coleus as they are over by the garage. They get some sun, but not enough. Sorry Deb. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.
Your dh bought you 35 plants??? What am I doing wrong??? (don't answer that) ;)
Brugie: Hey, that's okay. You know these threads go in all directions.
What is the tree in the big pot.
Delph: Brugie meant that our own Eclipse [Kyle] brought her 35 coleus to plant in her garden. Gets confusing at times.LOL.
OOOHHHHH! Gotcha. Hard enought to keep one name straight - here everybody's got two! LOL :()
BTW if I could grow hostas like that I, well, I guess wouldn't be living here, would I? Gorgeous...
Deb, if you are talking about the black pot in the front of the picture, that is a VooDoo lily. It is closed up in that picture, but wide open now. I don't see any other pots you could be talking about.
Shirley, this one is to die for.
Brugie: Yep, that was the pot. Weird looking, isn't it.
Deb, it is actually very pretty with the umbrella of leaves it has now. I may not think it is so pretty around Feb. or Mar. when it decides to bloom though.
That did open up nice for you.
Yep, I just need it in a different spot. I'll do that one day when it isn't so hot and humid. LOL!
Bob, I'm still working on finding our friend something special. Maybe by fall.

Brugie: Ahh, that looks much better. With It open it makes your deck area come to life.
Thanks Deb. It is going to be moved though. It interrupts my view of the big flower bed when I'm in my favorite chair. LOL!
Hey I put it right where you told me to.LOL!!
I know Doc, but it grew!! LOL!
Doc: That was cute, now you should have known that Shirley has her favorite chair. Next time keep the plant to the right or left of her viewing area. LOL..
