I love this tucked into this corner where it has some support.

I live near Vancouver, BC (Canada) & wonder if this would do well in our summers. Although our gardening zone is 8a, we have weather somewhat similar to Seattle - summer can be slow in coming & only July & August will be consistently hot. For example, this June has been cool & cloudy so I wonder if a great deal of heat is needed for this to perform well. I'd like to hear from anyone who's grown it in cooler summers.

I live in the North Okanagan(Vernon) .It grows great , but what do I do to insure it grows again next year. signed idiot gardner. thanks

For me it's an annual, and the only way I can insure it grows again is to either start new plants from seed or purchase seedlings.

I was given a plant like this, maybe 2" tall, and had not a clue what it was. It grew into such a magnificient plant! Mine did not get near as big as I see in the pictures here, however, my neighbors grew quite big. She put hers right into the ground and I potted mine, then into the ground.
A man at a gardening center said they would be fine outside over the winter.....?? After reading here I am assuming these are annuals. I am in zone 6. I did save some of the (seeds) that fell off and will try sowing. I am flying blind here so if someone could give me more information I would appreciate it. Mine or my neighbors did not grow tall and lanky but shorter and fuller. IS there perhaps a dwarf type?
Everyone who walked past my yard or came to visit commented on its beauty. I am just now learning the name....

Thank you all for being here!
Does anyone know how this name came about?
