OK what did I do wrong?
Gee, that is a new one to me and I thought I had seen it all. Any chance you have mites? I find 95% of what is wrong with my brugs is from mites. Esp these broad mites you can't see. They are deforming if you do not catch them fast.
Your leaves look good. Lets wait for Susie or Monika or Tracey or Brugie to come on. I will email this to Susie to make sure she sees it for you. What disappointment you must be feeling. Maybe someone else has had this happen to them and they will share what they learned.
Any chance the sun was hitting them when the sprinkler was on? It may have cooked the tender tissue in the bloom if the sun was hitting the water on them. Just a guess because other than that, I have no idea.
What kind of alfalfa did you use for the tea? Some of the pellets used for feed can contain salt.
I am thinking alfalfa. I water early in the morning. Alfalfa a bale in a bag (Chopped Alfalfa) Did not buy pellets. Thats the last thing and only thing I did different. Will put the rest of the bag in the garden as mulch.
I always forget to list Sue who knows so much about everything plants and bugs!! So Sue, how can I tell if my pellets have salt in them? Do you use alfalfa?
Pellets should list the ingredients on the bag. I bought some pellets that were for bunnies that contained salt. I would think chopped alfalfa & alfalfa meal would be okay... but ya never know. If it's an animal feed they may have some other ingredients added.
Hi Sue! Happy Saturday to you!
My pellets do not have the ingrediants listed! I keep looking for the molasses pellets since Ma Vie and Gretchen went on about how good molasses is for you rplants.
Going to flush it with H2O2 and water. Will wait for the next flush of blooms. Thanks everone for the help. Mixed up a batch of tea and will check it for salt. Also will experment on another brug later.
Hi Kell :o) I'm still around. My brugs seem to be doin nothing so I haven't been hanging around here too much.
If the ingrediants aren't listed for your pellets I would assume they are staight alfalfa.
Happy birthday Sue
Me? I think you're mistaken, Ted.... I hope I'm not having another birthday. Gosh they come too fast as it is! - LOL!
Sorry I did not read the Sat. part above LOL.
Ahh... yes... Saturday ;o). I worked all night so I just got of bed. That's as exciting as my Saturdays get - LOL. Maybe after a couple more cups of coffee things will liven up. Or at least I might!
Your daylily seeds are on year # 2.
Will see blooms next year. Takes a while to see the fruits of your work Thanks
You don't think you'll have any blooms this year, Ted? I can see several scapes coming on some of mine... but not all. Some do take 3 years. I guess it just depends ob the parents. I will say one thing... they're certainly a lot easier to take care of than brugs!
Sorry to hear about your brugs, Sue. So is the weather the problem? Ddi you ever get your GH up and running?
Yes... I blame it on cool weather but I'm sure neglect is a big part too. The greenhouse is still in boxes and pieces. I told DH as long as it's up and running by frost I'll be a happy camper. I don't want to be freaking out this fall when the weather starts getting cold. I think the hard part will be digging out the floor and putting in concrete footers for the base. Hopefully the construction part won't be too bad if he gets a friend or two to come over and help. I'm bound and determined to downsize the brug collection and only keep the plants I can winter over in the greenhouse. I don't want another winter living with a jungle inside.
My Ecuador Pink does that all the time if the blooms are exposed to the extreme heat, it is the heat cooking the tissue of the corolla, even when they don't have water on them, so I wouldn't worry about anything you may have done, IMHO it is just from heat/sun.
TAR, I live in southeast Arkansas, zone 8a, and I had something like that, except the leaves were damaged too. It was very strange, and I think I might have sent a photo to another thread, don't remember which one. This is what happened, it rained and rained and rained and I feared the plant was going to die, but I couldn't get it outta the ground because of the mud and bog and rain. The strange part, to me, is that the entire plant didn't die, only the center that was loaded with buds. It wilted and withered, had it not withered, I would have left it, but I feared if I didn't that the whole brug might die, so I cut it out and stuck it in a bucket of water. I took all the withered leaves off but left the buds because they weren't as bad as the leaves and, surprisingly, they bloomed and looked deformed just like yours. The rest of the brug is not damaged and has a flush right now, with huge blooms. I think my plant and, or that part of the plant, which was right in the center, got water logged on a day that it was cool, and when the sun came out, it was red hot and scorched the center of the plant. Only thing I've been able to figure. The shoot I removed has rooted and I'm going to stick it back in the ground. Good luck with yours!!! SherryLike
Very intersting, since it is in a pot I will be able to move mine to see what happens. Last year it was under a shade tree and did well.
