It is 6 feet tall already and just got its first bloom. I love this plant!!!! Who else grows it?
morning glory bush blooming
Hi Rylaf,
I have never heard of a morning glory bush. Would you tell me a little about it?
Bill
I think its name is Ipomoea carnea fistulosa . I have read it gets 6 to 12 feet tall. It blooms for months. Mine had its first bloom today. But it is loaded with buds. I think in the next few days a bunch will open up at the same time. I have wanted one for a long time and a very kind soul brought me one at the Florida roundup. I cant believe how fast it has grown. Neat, neat plant. Mine is about 6 feet tall and still growing.
Beautiful,is it a Mauve?or is that a play of the light?
Kind of a purplish pink color. Root, I could see one of these in your garden. Growing up through the elephant ears.
Don't tease me!! How hardy are they?LOL! see the wheels in my head already turning!
Oh root, since when do you care about hardiness? You grow things that no one living in Kansas city should be able to grow. I can see it now!!!!
Shhh,you know me well don't you,LOL!
They come in 3 colors purple, pink and white I have all 3 and they have ben blooming for about 2 months already....
I have one (color?) and am scared to death to plant it. So many garden favorites have become weeds here...ageratum is one of the biggest pests in my life! Anyone have any experience in a temperate climate. Mine is thriving (barely) in a pot.
Rylaff, do you have yours in sun, shade, or partial?
I have a 'baby' that I have obviously been cramping in a very small container. I had no idea they got that big. What a pretty plant you have! Mine is going to get replanted ASAP.
Jean
Mine is in full sun.
I love these! Here they bloom year round pretty much and get HUGE! Not sure if mine is the pink or the purple - think purple, its kindof a pale laverder pinkish color. Forms a nice graceful vase shaped open shrub if planted in the open, or will hold its own in the back of a bed and get as tall as it needs to to get the sun. Full sun or part shade down here.
Bravo!!!!! Beautiful.
Busybee, sent me this as a stick and said put it in water and it will sprout. I did what she said but will admit I was a skeptic. It is 4 feet tall and growing like a weed. Got buds but no blooms. I can't wait to see blooms. Would you recommend taking cuttings again this fall? And on any piece of stalk?
I find cuttings root easily in potting soil. I take em now while the plant is in active growth, 12-16 inch cuttings and pull off all the big leaves, usual deal but the cuttings can be big. I also root suckers that come up from the bottom. You can also root old wood over the winter, just stick a big piece in a pot and leave it, like hydrangeas. You might want to take off the top of yours to get it to branch, then you could root that piece.
Great idea, DD.
I got mine from gone2seed at the GA Round-up. It's growing a little, but slowly. I have cool nights, often down into the 50s, so I don't know if it will bloom or not. But if not, I will pot it and take it to a historical mansion owned by the county (Silvermont). They have an extremely wide windowsill across a bank of windows on a landing halfway up a huge staircase and I will try it there. There are already 2 plants up there.
Silvermont is used in the mornings as a senior citizens mealsite and they love to see anything blooming..
rylaff, If you ever take cuttings, I would sure love to have one.
Patricia

Patricia
Wow, wow, WOW! These plants are really lovely! (She says as she drags her baby plant into a sunny spot).
My baby is gonna do THAT? Whew!
Now wait just a minute. I saw a picture of your house that you posted recently. In a really nice Metairie neighborhood. And you have chickens? And SHEEP? What gives? LOL.
I would love to have a cutting of your purple one, Diva, I have the pink one, I think it is the pink one. If you have an extra, can you send it with the girls when they head this way?
LSP we are in the part of the city which is considered "unincorporated" consequently no restrictions on livestock as long as they aren't a "nuisance." So no roos, cept for our tiny Malaysian bantam who sounds like Mickey Mouse trying to crow, and we did end up rehoming our sheep but that was because of my neck injury. (sob) I have a part time LLC with a partner - called Suburban Safari - we do birthday parties with animals. Lots of people here have odd pets - lady a mile away has a 300 lb pot bellied pig! Phone guy who lives next door says when he's up on a pole he sees all kinds of weird animals in people's yards (prob. sees other things too!)
Gotcha Mary.
