One of the branches on one of our 3 Satsuma Orange trees.
we had a very good harvest with all the very delicious Oranges we could eat for 3 months, and we shared with the neighbors.

October Satsuma
That looks fantastic trois!
What a bumper crop. That seems a very good value tree
It is very good, and likely would do well in your area as it is hardy down to 20 degrees F. When a late frost hit the early blooms and killed them all, A couple of weeks later it bloomed again. No wasted crop.

It has produced every year, each year more than last. When it was about 15 inches high, we had a crop of 2 Oranges.
This year it looks like twice as many as last year.

I'll look out for it, thanks :)
Is 'October' the variety name?
The people who were here before had some citrus trees in pots which they overwintered just inside an outhouse with large opening, no door. So I think I'll give it a try. Often trees are hardier as they mature, so perhaps I should keep one in a pot for a couple of years before planting out... what do you think?
I've seen satsuma trees for sale in a local garden centre (at a price LOL) But my family adore them. I used to by them by the boxload at christmas.
That was just when the picture was taken.
The first couple of years I covered the trees with hay during cold snaps. They are too big now and likely don't need it anymore. I prefer to start them where they will grow, as it sets them back a bit when transplanted.
They are not low cost here either.
Thanks trois - great to have the info from someone who's growing them so successfully
You are welcome. Glad to help.
