brugs in containers
Hi, and welcome to the brug forum. I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference where they are planted as long as they get good moisture and food. If in the ground, you would want to dig it up or take a cutting this fall. It could survive the winter in your zone with mulch, but it would take longer to flower in the summer that a potted plant. I put most of my potted ones in 20 gallon size pots. Actually they are black nursery pots. I still have a couple of smaller pots, but they really have to be watched for water needs. Hope this helps. Maybe someone from your zone could come in and tell you their experiences. I have no chance of planting and leaving in the ground in zone 5. Again, welcome to this forum and Daves Garden. Hope you will jump in anytime and talk with us.
Hi Charlotte: I am up in Lake Toxaway, not very far north from you. I love to go down to the Pickens Flea Market.
I have some bruggies in the ground and a couple in pots. If you want to bring any in to over-winter them, then pots are best. However, if you have them in pots outside, especially clay pots, you have to water them more frequently.
However, I assume you have had plenty of rain as we have had huge amounts up here. I think we will set a record for rain for the year. Rosman has had flooding 3 times this year. My bruggies are getting ready to bloom. I only had one plant last year and took cuttings from it, but was given several throughout the year and this year I have 12!
Perhaps we can get together one day when I come down to the flea market..........
