Thanks, Brucedean!

I really wondered if it was ever going to do anything! I thought I had killed it for a while, but gave it some alfalfa tea and forgot it for a bit ;>}

Now, can anyone tell me how best to care for this? Should I keep it in a pot or plant it? I sure don't want to lose it now!

Yep Vi,send it to me!! I will keep track of it for you,LOL!! What a beauty! I am glad it came back for you.

Gee Doc, c'mon now!
I just got this as an ugly bulb at our spring swap, I heard others had killed them, so what do I do now (dangnabbit!)
Water? Fertilizer? Soil?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I would not over water, and probably would not fert it to soon,I do believe they like to stay evenly moist,I think that is what Kyle just said. She is a beaut!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

One of my absolute favorites. You're a lucky girl Vi to get it at a swap.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Liz,don't you have something similar to this one?

Tillamook, OR(Zone 8b)

Wow!! What is the name of that one? It's absolutely gorgeous!!!

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Vi, don't mean to hijack your thread. Where did you find alfalfa? I went to Barnes Hardware (yep, our former gov's family business.) They are now Barnes Ace Hardware and they did not have it. I bought some a few years back - supposed to accelerate my compost pile...

Root, I have Polly and Sanderiana that is supposedly a parent.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

That is an African Mask otherwise known as Alocasia amazonica. Aren't they wonderful. I have had mine in a pot for several years and it loves it I guess. Its never complained anyway. I have divided mine up a couple of times and it just keeps going. Here is a pic of mine.

You are welcome Vi,not to much water not to much fert.and not to much sun and it will be fine.

Here is a better picture of my African mask.

Liz -- I thought Polly and nobilis were parents of Amazonica ... ?

Can anyone give an estimate of max mature leaf size of sanderiana, Polly and Amazonica?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

The one leaf on my plant is 19" by 13". They have been larger but when I split up my plant I gave my DMIL The larger ones so that give you a general Idea of how big they will get.

Adding to must have list!! What a beaut!

Root: You've got mail...

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Jan. I've have amazonicas with leaves around a foot long, but I've seen pictures of plants with near-identical leaves that were three feet long. I think they were probably sanderiana, but I've recently heard that Polly can also get large. That surprised me because I thought that Polly was smaller than Amazonica.

Of course, I want them all! But I really want to start searching for the one that gets the largest.

Liz, I know I was a lucky girl! Just hope Bruce liked his English Rose well enough, our Bruce is a sweetheart!

Thanks for the pics Jan, I sure hope mine grows big like yours :) Looks like a 3 or 5 gallon pot?

Brenda, do you have a feed and seed store? That where I found mine. Surely someone sells horse feed, that's your best bet, or ask for alfalfa hay if you just want it for compost.

Thanks everyone! (Hope you've found one Doc!)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

That Sweetheart Debby! What a gal,I'm excited,I have wanted this one for some time.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

YAY ;>D

Milo, IA(Zone 5a)

Root: I was totally shocked that you didn't have it. She is too tempermental for me. She will be yours.
