Congratulations on getting these guys to bloom. I know they are not an easy grower. Just love em.

Thanks Lenjo ..I'm proud on these guys too. Just wondering..do you have them in your garden from seed ? They always take many time to flower. I've planted 3 bulbs that look like spiders in 1996. The first year only one bloomed. The second year two and the third year I had three blooms. Meanwhile there were already babys that went to flower the past two years. If you have leaves the bulb is still preparing to flower in forthcoming years. As all bulbs you may not cut down the leaves but let it die back natural. They are sure worth waiting for. I hope this helps.

You have better luck with them than me, they are stunning.

I won't admit how many starts (bulbs) I started with and ended up with blooming. Only one bloomed out of many. I first potted them in gallons but not many grew, I read where it was to be very shallow and they liked well drained sandy soil. I tried to accomodate but eventually planted outside and only one has bloomed. One of 25 I seem to recall. So my hats off to you. I know these guys are difficult. My starts came from Leo Berbee company.

If you've planted them in wright way (shallow on a sandy bed).. there's another possible reason ..I've experienced that the most (commercially) offered tubers are very small and often in bad shape..they'll take many years to flower...
