Selfheal

Broadview, SK(Zone 3a)

Does anyone in Canada have any selfleal/healall (prunella vulgaris) for trade?

I should have some seed by late summer if all goes well. Where's your trade list?

Echoes, I sure wish I could mail you some plants from Alaska. I started some from seed and have about 20 plants in 3.5 inch pots. What do you do with this stuff?

I got mine by mistake. Was ordering Primula vulgaris. I read it can be invasive so I'm growing it out in the back beyond. I'm not doing anything with it. No idea why nevrest wants it. But if you got some Primula vulgaris......

I have primula vulgaris growing in my southwest bed, but I have never been able to catch the seeds to collect them. It always seems like the blooms just disappear. If I find seeds, I'll let you know, Echoes. I'd be willing to chance sending you a plant, but mail from Alaska to Canada can take two or more weeks.

Thanks Weez, I'm thinking I should be able to find the seeds next year, if I just check off the right box next time.

Did you find any prunella yet nevrest?

Broadview, SK(Zone 3a)

Found some plants at Kettleby Herb Farm;
I really need them only for identification purposes.....
to see if the plant we have growing wild really is selfheal.
It is a medicinal herb.
Echoes or Weez would you be able to post a pic of the prunella?
Thanks

I'll post one when they get a little bigger. Your plants are probably a couple of feet high by now?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Mine are still in 3.5" pots, but I'll get you some photos today. I looked up info on selfheal on the web, but didn't find any medicinal information. How is it used?

Well mine should be in 3.5 pots, but never got transferred. When I read they were invasive, I doubted I would plant them. But I'll put a few way out.

It was used medicinally as an astringent, to clean wounds and as a gargle for sore throats. Nowadays it is primarily used cosmetically for its astringent qualities.

Do you have more prunella than you need/want?
Please email me direct if you do. Did we not make a trade earlier in the year?
Dorothy

I'll check and see if I have any seed left.

I finally remembered to take a picture of the selfheal I started this spring.

Sorry, I don't have any seed left. I guess I threw it all in the starter mix. It wasn't a big packet.

Nevrest, I just took a peek at the forbidden site. Rabbits are yummy. Thanks for a good laugh. We are sooo prairie girls.

Weezin- thanks for the pic....the one "weed" that I had isolated as perhaps selfheal..IS NOT! Rats.

They aren't quite ready yet. I wish there was a way to get some plants to you by mail. Weez, if I sent them to you, any way you could get them into Canada?
If you give me your address, as soon as they are ready I will send them to you, or you can wait and I'll let you know when they are. Doris

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Doris, you can send seeds into Canada. I just wouldn't label them as seeds on your customs tag. If you are uncomfortable with that, just send them to me and I'll send them on.
