It's over 4" wide with wings spread and mostly browns and muted colours so I would guess some type of moth but really doesn't have the thick body of the 'hummingbird' sphinx? moth. It is in the garage, hasn't found the open door yet...

I found it again in the garage so I'll try again tomorrow. Looks like the body is thicker than I thot.
I think this is a better pic. Last night I caught it in an icecream bucket, put the tennis racket on top so that I could watch it, and then took off the racket later. It's still in there now!

I still have it - looked for it in the garage the next day and found it dead. :( I'll have to see if the science teacher would like it!
