Does anyone have seeds I can buy/trade of this or know where I can find some if not?
solanum quitoense
David, i found this on google http://www.nativehabitat.com/squitoense.html hth
Thanks MaVie,
That looks like what i'm looking for. I saw a few plants yesterday at Brookgreen Gardens and they are quite interesting.
I would certainly hate to fall on one though, the leaves are covered with spines up to a half inch long on both sides as well as the trunk and all be covered with them.
ouch LOL! that plant sure is very decieving. the spines from what i have seen were hidden underneath the leaves. i've seen this plant sold on ebay too some years back. glad u've seen it in person and have u think twice about this plant. am sure there are some DG members who has it... just could not remember who, cuz i've seen it posted here yrs. back.
I saw it at Callaway Gardens years ago and its really gorgeous in person - very purple and velvety. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy looking for this!
I found the source for the original plant that I saw of this a few days ago. The bad news is that they have already finished there 2004 shipping season and won't have plants until 2005. http://singingspringsnursery.com/index.html
They sold the solanum plants for $7. The guy in charge of landscaping at the place I saw this plant said it came in a 4inch pot to them in May. When I saw it a few days ago it was over 4ft tall.
Kell can u pls enlarge the last photo a wee bit. hard to distinguished cuz photo seem to be smaller than thumbnail pic. thanks. was that the one u called Lady's nipple LOL.
found something online but called nipple plant [Solanum Mammosum] http://www.tropilab.com/nipplefruit.html
that plant looked like some kind of felt plant. i have to look it up to get the Latin name.
here u go http://plantsdatabase.com/go/2370/
edited to say: Kell, from the looks of the photo u took, it does look like a felt plant to me. the solanium plant do have spiky thingy on the leaves. which ever it is, it will grow tall for u.

The leaves feel like velvet but there are timy spines on them, Ma Vie.
regardless of which one it is Kell, it will surely grow tall once u place it on the ground or a bigger pot. they sure grow tall. and i hope u got the one with the purple flower. cuz accdg to the site, it either bear purple or white flower. good luck Kell.
I found another source for the solanum that I was looking for. Glasshouse Works in Stewart,Ohio sells them so I ordered 2 from them.http://www.glasshouseworks.com/pageone.html
