Thanks MaVie,
That looks like what i'm looking for. I saw a few plants yesterday at Brookgreen Gardens and they are quite interesting.
I would certainly hate to fall on one though, the leaves are covered with spines up to a half inch long on both sides as well as the trunk and all be covered with them.

ouch LOL! that plant sure is very decieving. the spines from what i have seen were hidden underneath the leaves. i've seen this plant sold on ebay too some years back. glad u've seen it in person and have u think twice about this plant. am sure there are some DG members who has it... just could not remember who, cuz i've seen it posted here yrs. back.

I saw it at Callaway Gardens years ago and its really gorgeous in person - very purple and velvety. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy looking for this!

I found the source for the original plant that I saw of this a few days ago. The bad news is that they have already finished there 2004 shipping season and won't have plants until 2005. http://singingspringsnursery.com/index.html

They sold the solanum plants for $7. The guy in charge of landscaping at the place I saw this plant said it came in a 4inch pot to them in May. When I saw it a few days ago it was over 4ft tall.

Ohhhh I thought I had seen yours David but no, mine was different. A nursery had these in gallon cans.

Sorry Ma Vie, I am used to making my pics smaller. I am trying out my son's digital and it is already sized right when you take the pic. The pic is not that good. I took it fast this AM to post on the rose forum.
