Baby Hummer

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

I stuck the camera up there where I can't even see and took this right after mom went off for more food. Sorry there's no beak but I idn't want to disturb. Sits right up when mom comes.

Well, climbed up quickly again this morning. So's you can see it's just a blind baby NOT dead - see he's sorta holding up his head and is in a more bird like position. Mama doesn't like this at all. so it's a once a day thing, and I try for when she just left.

Shoot that's the blurred pic here's the one with his little eyes squeezed shut.

Great pictures! Where is the nest? The hummers here build theirs high up in the trees so I never get a chance to see the nests. You're really lucky.

Heck, Blooms can't use her back door for several months in the spring/summer -- the nest is on a Christmas-lights wire strung along the shallow overhang maybe two feet from the door.

This was the first chick of the year, just before it fledged (learned to fly). Did you know they would lay another egg even after successfully raising one? I didn't.

It's amazing how those stubby little baby bird beaks can grow so long and skinny in such a short time.

If you think that's ugly, you should see a baby pelican, lol
