Wash tub petunias + brug....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Last year I planted cannas in this old washer tub and then put a couple of wave petunias on the edge. This spring, the petunias came up from seed deposited in the tub last year. The only thing is....they are growing out the holes better that on the top of the soil. Wish the ones on the top would hurry up and fall over the rim of the tub. Even tho the tub is full of petunias, the brug is doing okay. This only gets morning sun and not early morning either.

That is a wash tub? Look slike a fancy pot. I love the look. I bet you could not get them to grow from there if you tried! LOL

Wow, great looking, Shirley. I agree with Kell, it looks like a nice pot.

Thanks for putting this up,Folks,I walked around and probed this pot trying to figure out how she planted those petunias so they came out the holes,LOL! I want to try this!

Is that not the cutest thing ever, I love it Shirley!! The pot is great, it looks expensive...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sherry, it was my kind of expensive....FREE. I am good friends with the Maytag man here in town. He gave me four of the tubs before he went to a different job this winter. He and his wife come over a couple of times when I need plants thinned out and he asked if I could use some. I'm not one to turn down good planters that are free and will hold up for years.

Shirley, I think that is the funniest thing ever, and, it DOES look expensive. How in the world did you figure out the idea??? Now, I realize what 'little holes' you were talking about, LOL, the holes that spin the water out. That is clever, I'm most impressed!!!!!

What a great idea. Looks fabulous.

Believe me....it was accidental. I saw the petunia seedlings coming up in the soil, but I sure didn't know they were going to grow out the holes like they did. Maybe at the top, but down at the bottom? I wonder what else I could do this with....maybe impatiens?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

That's neat Shirley!

That's so funny, Shirley, and one of the things that makes gardening so much fun!! Impatiens grow unusually well here, but HAVE to be watered frequently. Portulaca, would do good too, as well as that tiny sedum, tho you might have to put the washer tub on another pot...those three will come back if they don't get too cold. Maybe you could just put your tubs in the GH or garage...I bet someone that does lots of containers will think of something even better...

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

That is so cool ... I love it!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really cool esp for me, I just love different ways to grow petunias. They are such a mass of bright color!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

What a neat, happy little accident!! Too cool!

Well I've never seen anything grow out of the holes at the bottom of a pot before. I must say I like the way it looks, if you tried to do that it would never work.

I planted a Brug in a small garden, and then planted some wave petunias (the new hedge type) around it. Those petunias sure took off. Can you see the Brug? Hint, it's in the center of the picture, behind the dissapearing girl.

Your weather must be agreeing with your plants now, Kathy. Everything looks really lush. Yes, I can see the brug back there....hope it has room to get big in your garden. LOL! Is that Queen Anne's Lace in the foreground? I have that stuff all over the place. Just can't get rid of it. The field behind us has a lot of it and I think the seeds come in with the wind or birds.

Oh how I wish petunias would last past the end of May or first of June here. They are my favorite annual. That looks so neat.

Brugie,

We have lots of Queen Anne's lace, I think it's lovely in natural areas, but I don't want it growing in my flower beds. Those seeds do manage to get everywhere.

That's some "Grandma Eincks Dill". This flower bed use to be an herb garden. I only planted it once, but that was enough, as it reseeds very easily. I love the fragrance and the texture, so I always let some grow.

This bed is pretty small, but it is lush just now .... cramed full so the weeds have trouble getting a foothold.

Here's another view ... There's a Brug near the red hedge petunias too. I hope the Brug's manage to do ok, they look pretty happy and healthy in there right now.

Minigrannie,

Thanks for the complement on my little garden.

I love the petunias too, I plant a lot of things to attract Hummers, but those little birds seem to like the petunias the best.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It looks very neat! I love the pot!

Your petunias are beautiful. I have a patch of dill that comes up every year at the north end of my veggie garden. I have it plowed and tilled and it still comes up. Now if I could just get the cucumbers to grow so I could use some on them. I do love dill in salads too.
