Can brugs go in the compost?

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

I try to garden organically as much as possible and I use my own compost on edible plants as well as ornamentals. I was wondering if brug debris can go into the compost since brugs are poisonous?

I have been composting longer than I have been growing Brugs, call me superstitious,I have never put even one leaf on my pile,I love my worms to much and I am scared to try it.So all mine get trashed,we joke about composting them, but I do not think many of us really do,and if they do,it is not compost that is used.

I compost everything that is not diseased , including my brug debris ........ so far , so good =)

My opinion is that it is very possible that you wouldn't know if a brug was diseased at the time you were tossing stuff in the compost. I would never put it on the compost pile just to be safe.

But if bugs can eat them (which they do with great relish at my house) and not die, would that make them nontoxic to worms too?
I think I'll try an experiment (no worms will be harmed). I will take the fallen leaves & flowers and chop coarsely with a scissors and use as mulch around one plant, to see if it is affected. Hmm, a hosta? Then we can see if the plant parts are poisonous to other plants.

I doubt they will be poisonous to other plants,it is disease that could be the real worry.

Oh, I saw the comment about the worms and my mind went in the "poison" direction.

I wasn't even thinking about the compost killing insects or other plants; I was wondering what would happen if I used compost with brug leaves in it on my tomatoes.....would I start hallucinating? LOL

I also hadn't thought about the disease factor. That sounds like reason enough to send it to the landfill.
