This is my Passiflora Foetidia (love in a mist) growing and blooming in a gallon pot supported with an upside down tomato cage that I spray painted copper. I like to grow passion vines in flowerpots to keep them from invading my flowerbeds.
Passiflora Foetidia
Last year was the first time I grew Love in the mist. It has cute red fruit. It does reseed. I am z8b and it was hardy in the ground.
Nice little vine.
Great picture Babs....
Thanks for the compliment moonlighting. I've only been growing this one for a few months now, and it has not set the fruit yet. I hope it does, I really would like to see that.
Is Love In the Mist related to Passifloras? The seed heads look the same. Hmmm
It is a passiflora, passion vine :>)
I have that one. The gulf frits loved it too. I've taken to hand picking them off the leaves.
And what do you do with them then?
Toss them on the ground. I can't bring myself to squish them, so I figure they have a fighting chance to find their way back to the passifloras. I was taking them from my "good" passifloras to the foetidas and putting them there, then the poor foetida got eaten down to a bare vine and figured I'd better quit. My Incense, Lavender Lady and others are starting to grow new leaves but I think the butterflies must keep a watch cause as soon as a leaf grows, they lay eggs. I have been holding off on the Bt, because of other butterfly cats in the area, but I may have to break down and spray.
I wish they were like the orange puppies, the ones that look like bird doo, they get on the citrus, but don't eat the whole plant! The pipevine swallowtails are nicer too, they only eat a few leaves.
I have no cats or butterflies this year and I am very upset! But, I have so many frogs and tadpoles I am guessing they eat the cats? What is going on in my yard????
Maybe the birds are eating your cats? Taddies might eat an immobile cat that's fallen in the water?
The frogs- I guess they'll eat some too.
Hey! I guess something is eating them all but I sure miss my butterflies.
Tell ya the truth- we dont have as many butterflies this year either. How odd.
They all came to south Texas to eat my vines!
LOL cala!
I hardly have any catties this year. I've cussed them other (prolific) years, but I didn't mean it. Really. ;-) The only ones I've seen this year are on my baby Edulis. They ate it down to nubs once, now it's regrowing and I moved them over to the Incense. Veeerrry strange.
I have been growing this for almost 8 months now and they are on a large trellis. It's blooming profusely but lasts just a few hours. It folds up very quickly when the sun warms up. I have not yet seen any seed pods forming. Have to check more carefully. Do they seed as profusely as they flower?
