Please help! I love these Cannas. I know they can be alot prettier than this! :(
What's wrong w/my leaves???
Does the discoloration start with spots? Can it be rust?
leaf rolers grass hoppers, spider mites... seven dust or spry them If my leaves look bad I cut them off.... when there through flowering cut them off to the ground to help not spread them...

l'm kinda new at this, so, please forgive me, but.. what is "rust" in the plant world?

Ely-
I thought maybe the leaves were being sun burnt??? Are they just being eaten up? Should I put down grown cover to protect? I have one Canna in a garden area that does much better, but it has not flowered and is slow growing. Any suggestions here? What should I spray them with?
Thank you both for your replies!!! :)

Check for parasites. If it wasnt for the holes in the leaves I'd say sunburn/windburn.
I had to put seven dust out because of the stupid ants around here.
I'd remove some of the badly browned leaves as well.
Mine seems to REALLY enjoy a nice thick layer of mulch (leaves/mushroom composte).
Thank so much! I will take your advice! Be looking for a much prettier pic in the next month or so! :)

that is a prime time pic of leaf rollers.... and grashoppers. maybe spider mites... look for webbing on your leaves..... I use seven dust you can get a spary form or powder.... I like the powder cause you just though it on them but I like to rub it on the leaves...I would cut the leaves off that are bad, that will help it from spreading.... let it finish flowering. then cut it to the ground. when you do that it inspires more growth...and it will pup up somemore. some cannas get affected late with leaf rollers. like when they are putting on there last bloom and then it looks like everyone is picking on it... did you cut them to the ground over the winter? alot of people i see down the road will cut them back and leave the stems and everything right there for mulch and leafrollers live in those things over winter. janet os has leafrollers jump from her cannas to her banana... tricky little buggers....
I dust all my canna beds once a week. sometimes more than that when it rains.... it washes off after a good raining. mulch is good for them...
My guess would be leaf rollers, they are the worst enemy of Cannas, and the main reason I don't grow too many cannas here. If you aren't adverse to spraying, find a spray that is labeled to control leaf rollers. You will have to spray pretty often to prevent them.
When you cut off the leaves with the leaf rollers, do NOT compost them. Let the city or county pick them up and take them away.
Thank you all so much for all your help! I had never heard of leaf rollers before, but now that you mention them. I have seen them in the Cannas and know exactly WHAT you are talking about!!!
