THis datura is right in the path of my walkway to my back door, everybody and it's only going to get bigger. Should I move it. what will happen if I transplant it. will it wilt badly? Iknow they are toxic, I just don't want everybody brushing up against it, it was a seed that just came up on it's own, they dropped out of a flower pot from last year, and were coming up everywhere, I've contained most of them but this one LOL. I want to try to save it and keep the seeds off it.

how safe is this here
Datura are toxic true, but simply brushing against it while walking by won't do a thing. To be effected one would have to ingest (eat) the plant.
thanks rikerbear, how big do you think this will get, still thinking I may need to move it, since it will probably take over the walkway.
it's growing fast.

Oh my Kathy, really hard to say how large it will grow.....in my milder climate they don't get huge....but for some poeple they become monster size.
I would wait and see if someone else has more/better advice on size.
ok thanks rikerbear

Kathy,
That one is nice and bushy, nice job you are doing with it. I have one that I put in the ground from a gallon pot. It transplanted well. Then it was getting pushed over by some canna lilies I put in, so I dug it up and moved it to a wider bed. This time, it got depressed and dropped all its leaves.
The good news, it got over being mad at me and is now starting to grow new leaves again. But it never at any time looked as good as yours. Maybe some day soon.
I would think if you are going to transplant, it would be better to do it before it gets too big. (I don't know how big that will be either.)
I hope this helps just a little.
:^)))

If you could give it some shade until it roots into its new home, it might help it.
some root shock too. can't think of name but it helps when you get them in the mail and move them in the yard...

yeah, it was in the sun there, but that was shade earlier LOL have to move it around to keep it in the shade, will do that in themorn.

Yes, you have Datura Stramonium var Tatula. Daturas don't transplant well and tend to show their resentment by wilting. Shade is a good idea until it recovers. How big it grows will depend upon how much space you've given the roots to grow in. If they have lots of space, they will grow three to six feet tall and as wide. If you restrict the roots, you will have a more compact plant. I experimented with this last year and put four plants in a five-gallon container. They were much more compact and well-behaved than the one that was growing in a five-gallon container by itself.
This is one that I gave too much space too. It grew very wide and lanky:
