OOT OH! HUBBY HAS BRUG FEVER!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Don't ask me how - these are my first, they are grown from seed, and they haven't got to the bloom stage yet. He's only seen pics of the blossoms.........

He's mother henning them! Really!

Says to me "honey, when we moved that pot, that water looked a little milky that came out of the bottom" (which it didn't - it was the porch). And "look at these leaves honey - they are pointing up! Do they always do that at night"????

He seems to be starting to dig this, and I'm not going to complain. Maybe it is somewhat of a fever that just spreads...........

Tell him they do always close up the top leaves at night, when he sees and smells a bloom,Then it all over!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I was going to ask about the leaves closing up at night, then realized that since every single brug that lives here, including seedlings, does that - I figured they all do, I think they are pretty cute when they do that!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Karrie...so happy for you...my husband loves me daylilies too! and compliments them and me all of the time for having them in our garden. Likes the brugs too, but has only seen 3 blooms...

This is what Preissels book says about the 'sleep position'.
"The leaves around the tips of the growing growing shoots change from being horizontal to pointing almost weticlly upwards. In this way they protect the extremely sensitive vegetation point from loosing too much heat during the night"

Looks to me like they are praying...
They sure are 'mothering' to their young (keeping them warm at night with their own bodies!)...Makes me love them even more knowing this!

Aren't brugs wonderful !!!
