Rootdoctor came to visit..

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yesterday, I had the best day. Doc and his Monica came to visit. We talked from the time they got here until the time they left. Doc potted some plants for me, dug some out that I no longer wanted, filled some holes in the yard with soil, and watered my brugs. Monica watered some too. Monica fixed home made burritos for us. I've decided now that I need a built in cook. It really was a great day. I felt so lazy. LOL!

Oh I would love to have root come here..and Monica
You guys sound like you had such a good time

Thursday I am going to visit a guy who is a member but not suscribed. He lives down in town and he's a hostaholic but is now taking an interest in brugs

The funny part is I already had met him years ago when he worked at a nursery I use to go to(it moved to a different location).I had remembered that he said he had 100's of hostas and lived on one of the streets behing the nursery. When he gave the directions to his house it clicked in my mind that it might be the same guy
And it is!

Its so nice to get to see someone in person and talk about brugs...and everything else

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It doesn't look like he did anything but hold the hose for you! LOL Sorry, I just remember last year the only thing YOU got to do was hold the hose. :) Great to see ya root! I bet you two had a great day! I've only chatted with you both on email but that's enough to know I love ya both!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Monica said that even on a day when it rains, he will be outside watering plants. I don't enjoy it THAT much.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Shirley, isn't it great to get unexpected help?? Your gardens are beautiful and sounds like y'all had a great time.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

(Maybe he waters so much to get out of doing housework!). LOL

I cannot believe the number of lush looking plants you have out there! I'd love to see a picture from above. Um, don't go climb on the roof or anything. ;) I just bet it is awesome!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shirley, your place is to die for, I love every inch - your plants are so healthy and you have so many - I like just about all gardens, but country gardens are at the top of my list, I would love to see your veggie garden too. It sounds like you guys had a blast. What I'd like to know is - do Root and Monica hire out??? I'd love to book them for a few days!!! What wonderful friends, thanks for sharing your get together with us!!!!!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL!!!!!! I can see I can't turn my back on you girls for one minute!!!
I had the best time, and Monica is still so happy she met you both, she wishes that we were closer,so we could visit every weekend!
Thank you Shirley for being such a great Hostess, you made Monica feel so at home!
I am a Hoseaholic always have been.
I wish everyone could see all your plants! You sure have the touch!

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

Looks like you had a grand time... and Shirley your yard is devine!

You realize why Root wanted to water doncha... look at pic#3.. he is reading the labels trying to figure out what he is going to come back and raid... ;-) caught him in the act!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

LOL Trish! Your garden looks beautiful Shirley. Apparently Rooty has enjoyed every minute giving you a helping hand.
You are so lucky. There is no big pond to cross!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Good going Shirley....I know you appreciated all the help and the cook too! Root is a great friend to you even though he may have a few other motives...LOL!!! Just kidding!!! I know you all enjoyed each others company. Great going RD...for helping out everyone in such a big way!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone.....I think Bob and I always have a good time when we visit. I'm just so glad he is willing to drive the distance. I couldn't do it. After sitting in a car for three hours, he would have to get a backhoe to get me out.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Beautiful gardens, Shirley. I know you all had a wonderful visit. Root, you and Monica can come to my house next but you can't water. You'd probably have to help sop up the water from so much rain. I sure wish it would clear up for a few days so things could dry out some.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That must have been fun. Glad you had some help. Plants look great!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Sounds like a wonderful time!! Gotta love those homemade goodies!
Gosh a cook and a gardner for the day!! That would be priceless to me! Glad yall had a nice time chatting and all.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Shirley, your yard looks wonderful. Everything looks so healthy and not chewed up like mine. What a nice friend Root is, and his friend, Monica, as well. They can come to my house anytime. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So what was up with Monica only taking pics of Root's back? LOL.

Your gardens are absolutely amazing Brugie, So lush!! A dream world in Iowa.

Sounds like Root and Monica are the type of friends you want to visit. They know how to pitch right in and are part of the family immediately!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Bob, I'm a hoseaholic too. When our oldest son was two-ish, he asked, momma, why do you water the bricks?? Well, those were the days when water was cheap and plentiful, I watered the bricks so I didn't have to sweep them...today, my plants have their very own 'private water source', which does not include sewer, the dreaded 'convenience' that runs up the water bill and I've never used more than the cost of the minimum charge - so I still water the bricks!!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Shirley your garden is beautiful! I bet we could hire doc out! lol

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, she was trying to get pictures without him knowing it.

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping it will continue to grow well. It will all depend on how hot and how dry it gets this summer, and how much heat I can take while holding the hose.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Gardens are beautiful Shirley. Can hardly wait to see it blooming. And Root ... ya just gotta love him!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Deb. Are you getting any mail now?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Everything is gorgeous as usual Shirley. I know that all of you had such a good time working and visiting with each other. It was so thoughtful of Root to help you out as he has done many times before. I am glad that Monica came with him this time and you and Jim got to meet her.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Hmmm.....I think I need to hire Root and Monica. I still have voo-doo's to plant and some hostas that are screaming to be let out of their little nursery pots. *sigh* Root, looks like you were having fun. I am not a hoseaholic, but I seem to have acquired an affection for watering wands. I don't know what it is about them, I buy them "just because". The one I really would have liked to have was at a garden center, and the little shut-off valve was made of metal, not 14 carat plastic like keeps breaking on the other ones, but it was $35.00!!!!!!!! Holy moly.........can't afford one of those! LOL

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Shirley,
I get paid to cook. But I have to agree with you it is great sometimes to just sit back and let someone else do it!!
I can say this aslo for housework,gardening,shopping,etc.etc.

Linden, TN

Sounds like oh so much fun..... and such beautiful gardens too.....

Thanks Carolyn. It is always great to have Daves Garden members come to visit.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

David, are you a chef????? My cousin is a chef but is semi-retired, taking care of his father and mother...

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

WOW! What great pictures and such a wonderful visit from great gardening friends! RootDoctor looks right at home in your beautiful garden! He is DEFINITELY checkin' out all the different varieties of Brugs, as he is watering.........YUPH! We caught you Doc! Love all your flowers especially the Clematis which is flowering. Which variety is it? Did you take any pictures of him watering flowering Brugs? It is sooo wonderful that you live close enough to each other for a visit, a.k.a. "mini-roundup"!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL!! She keeps complaining about missing tags! I was putting them in my pockets as I mapped out where each one was,I hate tripping around in the dark, when I make my raids!

I love going up there,it is easy to feel at home,Shirley and Jim are great folks, and I feel lucky to say, good Friends.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Shirley1, unfortunately I only had a couple of stray blooms on a couple of plants. It is early for big flushes in Iowa. Usually that starts happening toward the middle of July. There really wan't much to take a picture of other than leaves. The clematis in the background is Jackmanii. I call it old faithful because I can always count on a show of blooms from it. By the way, I have one really special seedling out there and if that one comes up missing, I'm heading to Kansas City. LOL! Thanks Shirley. I appreciate all the nice comments made on this thread.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shirley if you need a black Suburban to go to KC, I'll bring mine and you can drive, and I'll ride shotgun, LOL!!!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Shirley, it's always so nice to have friends visit so you can "share" your garden with them, and what an amazing garden you have to share.

Everything is beautiful !

It looks like you've got a pretty good friend in Rootdoctor. He's willing to drive all that way and work when he gets there too. (But I'll bet he'll say that wasn't work ...... it's real pleasure.)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Sherry. I'll keep you and the Suburban in mind.
Kathy, the two big coleus that you sent are awesome. I love them. Yes, I'm sure if I called him and said I need help right away, he would be here in a heartbeat. Kyle is the same way. A couple of great guys in my book.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Brugie, Wish I didn't live so far from allof DG people and could go visit some. Sure was nice that Root and Monica could come and visit you. Your garden looks lovely. I'm sure you all had a great time. Donna

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Donna, I met so many nice people at the last roundup. There are quite a few around here within driving distance. Getting old and also having hip replacements creates some problems for me once in a while. I do have to get help, spring and fall but I refuse to give in until I absolutely can't do it anymore.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Glad you all had such a good time. I love little get togethers and meeting other Daves members.
