Howdy y'all, I'm new to growing hoyas and need a bit of help..
I bought a variegated Hindu Hoya (was in small pot) I have potted it up in a nice size hanging basket.
My Questions are where to hang it? sun, part sun, shade & how often to water & just general care.
Thanks for your help
Thx,Carol
Newbie to Hoya's
Congrats on your purchase Carol.
Most Hindu Ropes aka Hoya compacta get killed from underwatering so keep well watered and do not let the soil dry out completely but also don't have the soil soggy.
A bright location with some filtered sun light would be best. You know it gets too much direct sunlight If you see light brown, crisp spots/areas on your leaves ( no big harm done just unsightly).
H. compacta can be a slow grower so be patient. Maybe get some more variegated or green ones to fill your hanging basket, otherwise it may look very lonely :)
Tip: Inspect closely for Mealy bugs since they like to hide in the twisted leaves of compacta.
Well, I'm no expert but this is what I do with my var. compacta (hindu rope), I have one in bright shade~near a window but not in the actual sun, one in morning sun, and one under grow lights. They all grow super slow. I haven't seen any differences at all in the way they grow no matter where they are. I do keep them moist at all times since I lost a few var. ropes when I let them dry between watering. Other than that, maybe someone else might have some better advice.
Remember to fertilize while it it growing. Norma
Thanks for the help..Im off to buy a couple more to fill up the pot...lol :-)
Carol
Now it's all filled up and looking nice..was a bit bare looking until I added the other two..another variegated Hindu Hoya and a green hindu hoya...:-)
Wish me luck, This is my first Hoya and I think im hooked already
Thx, Carol
All that good advice is what I would repeat! I had a bunch of cuttings of H. compacta...left them ignored, watered when I could remember, they were really underpotted and when the lightening struck that the vines were a foot long and the pots were 2"...I potted up...and all the vines were blooming. Go figger! These are V E R Y forgiving plants.
Good luck!
