what eats tadpoles?

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

...Besides big fish? Mine have suffered a massive reduction, and only the ones in the almost-out-of-water basket on the shelf seem to have survived. Baby goldfish couldn't have done this, could they???

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hmmm.... baby as in.. fry? Or just small goldfish? GF are voracious eaters. lol. Taddies are slightly toxic though and after looking at my fish with them- they don't eat them that much.
Did it rain and possibly wash the taddies out? Or did they morph already? Check for little froggies.

Hi Killer and Crim,
I have so many frogs now and still a million tadpoles, I will share. the frogs are so loud I have to wear ear plugs to sit ourside at night, Betsy covers her ears with her paws!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

isnt it grand weeds?! LOL I love frogs!!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep, grand it is! I have one froggy caught in my 2 gallon watering can....no water in it. I kept hearing this thump, thump and the wind was not blowing and finally tracked down the sound to that frogster jumping in the plastic can. I turned it on it's side so maybe he will hop on out today. I don't touch froggies unless they jump on me so you may have to come get him out!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL! They arent gonna hurt you! Unless you lick them maybe... hehe.
My mums friend is scared to death of frogs. :-))

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

It's the jumping that scares the begeebes out of me!

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

ok, mystery solved. They morphed already (I swear they didn't even have legs last time I looked!!!) and this morning I had 3 new little puddles of frog spawn floating on the water, so I'm gonna stop worrying about them. I think I'm going to be full-up on froggies this year.

thanks y'all for caring about silly me and the little taddies.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh no thanks needed-
I just had to bury a little tree frog. :( It got caught in the door and squished. Sad thing is- it was still alive! :-(( I whapped him with the shovel and buried him. Then planted a pretty hot pink weed on his grave. *sniffles* Hope frog guts are good fert. :-)

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

ohh, how sad! I'm glad you put him out of his misery, altho I know that can be hard to steel yourself to do.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Killer, have I asked to this already,
Do I owe to goldfish? It was you or another lady I met at the swap. I forgot to give her/you the GF I had promised.

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

wasn't me. Was Other Lady. Good luck figuring out who!!!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Ducks will sure eat them up, perhaps other water birds

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

I think I lost some to birds - there are ibis and egrets and the occasional heron, as well as neighborhood ducks. But I also have about 20 frogs hopping in and out of the pond now who didn't live there before, and the drainage ditch (which is never dry, always has about a foot of water even in the worst drought) near my house has a lot of frogs who weren't there previously also.
Mosquito activity is down, yay!
