I have seed grown Datura Tatulas, that are blooming when they are only 3 inches tall. Also, the first 2 flowers did not open up wide like my usual single white ones. Is this normal for this variety? They are cute - but I want the flowers to open up more!
Datura Tartula problem?
That is the way the open and stay. The plants will get a lot bigger once in their own pot or planted in full sun. Looking good.

Datura tatula here in Zone 10a, that's my newest choice with all the discussion about Zones lately, although I think we're probably closer to 10b so I may be that tomorrow! :-), opens fully in the evening, stays open all night and closes up as the heat rises in the morning. Our nights are cool, it may be 100F during the day, but will cool to 50F at night.
Your experience with a very small plant blooming and setting seed pods has been mine also. They get very BIG!
Once I fed them with alfalfa, they all put out buds. Now I know they WILL become larger so I can decide on where to plant them on the garden... Thanks for your help! Happenstance - I think yours are more pretty than mine. I cannot see the color like that yet...
Where is seed for Datura tatula available. i like to try the different ones, well ignore my inquiry, I looked in my J. Hudson catalog see they available there.
Jrush, I wondered why you haven't planted your daturas out in the garden. You are zone 6, I am zone 5, I planted mine outside a month ago. They are just beginning to grow nicely, actually yours look larger than mine. Good luck with getting them to perform as you wish. Donna
I have horrendous problems with critters ripping out my seedlings, so I start seeds in pots. I also wait for my Poppies, Alliums, etc to die back so I can see how much room I have to work with. I buy a lot of TLC post bloom perrenials, so I never know what will be up come Springtime. It is kinda fun this way...
I have this one growing, it's about 3 feet tall now, and the buds never open any more than the one in the picture

I still have seed available from last fall if you still want some, just email me w/your address and I'll be glad to send you a bunch.
Happenstance, thanks for the offer. I think it is too late here for this year, we will have hot dry weather for next two or three months. Actually I am about planted out, now if I can just keep the weeds under control. Donna
