Wonderful golden color, mmm , mmm. I have the aurantica which is pretty too.

Give this new plant some time to throw off some puppies and maybe we can trade! Some of the ones I have generate stems 4-5 ft long. As cut flowers they seem to be good for at least 2 weeks, even without water changes or aspirin and all the 7-up and stuff they recommend to extend.

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

The aurantica has done that this year, that is throwing up blooming spikes 4 to 5 feet tall. I have tried to dig mine up and move it around. I don't know what I am looking for ; I have been told they do a rhizome thingy. I would certainly try again.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

The rhizome thingy is very fleshy. I just read an article that says they don't like to be moved and that the best time to divide or transplant is Oct-Nov. I have several Pacific Coast Iris and apparently that is also the time for them. I divided one last year too early and lost all but one small piece.

Does this plant also come in red? And is sometimes called July Lily? The bulb is very small (penny size in diameter), and they multiply like crazy. Would appreciate whatever you can tell me. Thanks. Carol

I have never heard of July Lily. Maybe it is crocosmia http://plantsdatabase.com/b/Iridaceae/Crocosmia/

The red I have is Red Sensation http://plantsdatabase.com/go/54196/index.html Until recently it has been difficult to find a variety of these flowers that were developed for the cut flower industry. If you live on the west coast check out San Marcos Growers http://www.smgrowers.com/products/plants/region_list.asp?region_id=3
or if you just want to droll, take a look at http://www.alstroemeria.com/new_archive_2002.htm#red but don't expect to find them at your local nursery.

I just got home from WalMart and guess what they had? A nice "wine red" Alstroemeria "Princess Oxana" or "staprioxa" is the http://www.princesslilies.nl/Foto/Oxana.jpg
Others in their line are at http://www.princesslilies.nl/Engels/Default.htm click on Assortment
The container is labeled the same as one's I just saw at Home Depot

Oh, Oh, Oh, if and when ya'll have babies and want to trade I would dearly love some of these, any color. I will trade my first born, my dog, my mother or plants, you name it!

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I already have a first born and definitely don't need another. Dog? what breed? I would never think of taking anyone's mother, hang onto her and hug her as much as you can while she is here.
Plants - maybe can do. Keep me in mind and send me a note in November.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh great Potem, I was secretly hoping you would choose plants! My momster is 83 and lives with me, the "real" gardener in the family! She is also a sweetheart.
Will do on the note, I am sure I can find something in my jungle you would like.
Thanks,
Connie
