Neighbors Koi pond.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

My neighbors Koi pond has turned red. This is not mud, I think it is some sort of algae. It has been this way a couple of weeks. The fish are eating normally and the water plants seem OK. It actually looks more red than the photo shows. Can anyone help?

Whoa! Crazy looking water. What is the pond made from-earth bottom, liner, etc? It looks like red dirt runoff to me. Never heard of red algae in fresh water before. Was anything sprayed, crop dusted, in flower(pollen?) recently near the pond? Checked water for pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate?

Gypsum was added to settle the mud, which was brown. This appeared a couple of weeks later. It might be something wrong with the gypsum. I had a bag that was rained on, and it turned red when wet. It was white before. It is strange.

Hmm... next time allow the mud to settle on it's own..

It was muddy for 4 years. I think the Koi kept it stirred.
