Sedum in a Tuffa

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Someone was asking about perennials in tuffa planters... I can't find the thread now. This sedum has been in this planter for 4 or 5 years. I haven't done a thing to it. I keep saying I'm gonna take out the sedum and plant something else ... but I think if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Hey poppysue. Just thought you might want to see my hens and chicks in a tuffa. This started last year at this time with 3 small plants in this tuffa container I made. Now it is overflowing and blooming profusely.

Poppysue...I think I might have been the one who asked that question. Sure do appreciate you posting your pic. I haven't gotten into the sedums yet, but plan on getting some started soon.

Glenda, your hens and chicks look great! Tufa must be really compatible with the succulent plants.

Hopefully this winter I'll be able to spend a little time playing in the concrete, too. ;-)

TARogers, What a nice spot...sedum will look great there. Want to trade places? :-D

Can you tell me what proportions/recipe are you using for your tufa? Do you use reinforcing fibers? And if so, where you get them?

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

1 CEMENT
1 SAND
2 PEAT
1 HAND FULL FIBERS (GET FROM YOUR LOCAL CEMENT COMPANY.

I did this different as I am putting them on top of the wall to stay and not be moved. so I used a bag of concrete mix for the bottom to anchor it to the wall. Then Tuffa for the walls.

Thanks TAR...I like yuor idea of using the concrete mix for the anchoring section. I'll see if I can remember it when I need to. ("sometimer's" you know...) ;-)
