Here are some pics from what I always call the first day of winter.
summer solstice report
Sapigossis peacock in one of the baskets - they aren't nearly as far along as last year. Too many nights down really cool I guess.
Oh Lynn your yard is going to be gorgeous! I love it! How did you overwinter your Rhodo?!?!?!? You have to post many, many, many pictures this summer!!
I love where your strawberries are...the local children will love the neighborhood Chef! :)
Your pond looks fantastic and nearby for checking it's progress! ;)

Actually this neighbourhood is so polite I have to invite the kids to have strawberries. No one would think of taking without being invited - isn't that a hoot. If I remember correctly the raiding of the garden made the stuff taste way better.
You are slipping there tho'...unplanted plants?!? Now in my yard I understand that....but you? :O
They did taste better that way didn't they!!! ;) I remember a friend and I throwing a ball back and forth in the alley and somehow it would head over a neighbors fence on occassion...boy did the apples taste good that day!
Looked like a nice day. The strawberries are on the boulevard (sp) and they still don't get eaten?!
I bet you don't get your Christmas lights stolen then either.
Linda
It all looks marvelous Lynn. You have a wonderful collection of pots. They definitely do your plants proud.
Definitely you'll get blooms. LOL, just feed, feed, feed....
In cooler weather add the pond tabs once a month...in high heat I added every 2 to 3 weeks (like last summer when we were over a hundred). It may cause algae growth...you might want a garbage can, on standby, with aged H2O (water replacement)If you find it to be too much! Dad has attached a filter to his ponds on occassion but they usually stay reasonably clear...the coverage of the Water Lily leaves will help.
I never noticed your question the first time...your plants had my total attention! :D
I LOVE all the pots .......and may I ask what is it that you have used instead of coco fibre or moss in the grill?
You are to be complimented on your use of color and space..and innovativeness...strawberries in the boulevard...NEAT.
I decided that sphagnum moss was too expensive last year and a pain to put in place properly so this year I bought shelf liner that isn't really adhesive but does kind of stick to itself and things. The cost per planter was about 25 per cent lower and I can reuse them for several years I think. Just wash them in a mild soap bleach solution and store. At least that is my plan.
PS used coco fibre one year - was the first time I ever had a corneal abrasion - not doing that again. That stuff is worse than fibre glass.
I am a pot junkie Liz. Every year at the trade show I order way too many. This year three pallet loads arrived and were sitting in the driveway for some time. Between that and the strange glow out the back from end of March on (the 2 1000 watts halide lights) I'm sure to have been the talk of the neighbourhood. I was going to put a sign out front "LOCAL POT DEALER" LOL. From the amount of interest they generate maybe I will take orders next year and make enough to support my habit.
I never pinch my rhody or trim it or anything unless it is a totally dead branch. They only bloom on a branch every other year and they set their buds for next year now as they are blooming on the non blooming branches. Those buds have to be protected like the crown jewels in order to get bloom.
Thanks Lynn. I've only owned one before and lost it over the winter. I often eye one variety that Walmart brings in...I don't think it is meant for our zone but it has gorgeous yellow/orange flowers (if memory serves me correctly from last year). What is the name of yours? I'll put it on my end of season sale shopping list.
Don't actually know the name of mine. It was installed when mom was still in charge of the yard.
Thanks Jagonjune,
I won't pinch the finished flowers this year and see what comes next year.
