My third bloom opening on my dbl. white...

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I just couldn't resist posting my bloom starting to open.... only my third bloom in my life! No wonder I am excited, again!

Who would have guessed that I would have gone from 2 brugs in March '04 to 23 in June '04....plus 10 growing from seeds! Addicted, who me??? :)))

Well, here it is...

PL, I'd say "YES" you are addicted and from two to twenty three in a couple of months plus the seedling looks like you have a bad case of it. LOL Best of luck on your bloom.

That's great Margie! Way to go!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Margie, you are doing great. It took me a couple of years to figure out how to grow them and I didn't do seeds until three or four years ago and then not many. I love growing them from seeds. Actually more fun than cuttings. Besides.....you always have the anticipation of the first bloom with hope it will be a beauty. Sometimes they are duds or look alikes.

Thanks brugie...these are a photo of my sdlings today!!!

Margie, you are on a roll, your double is WONDERFUL and your seedlings are adorable and oh so healthy!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Margie, I'd say you have a chance of seeing them bloom late this fall. I wouldn't be afraid to get the larger ones into gallon pots and into some sunshine. They will grow like weeds. Fertilize each time you water for a while. Maybe not full strength, but I don't really think it would hurt them. They look really good. The picture I'm adding is of seedlings planted Dec. through Feb. I know at least four or five of them were planted the 14th of Feb.

Oh my goodness. Shirley, you need to give us some lessons on growing these. LOL

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shirley, your seedlings are so beautiful and healthy, my goodness, you really have a green thumb!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks.....I just put them in soilless mix and feed, feed, feed. These have been through 60 mph winds a few times and the leaves were pretty nasty looking for a while, but they are stronger for going through the wind, I'm sure.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Shirley, tell me, what is soilless mix??? Is it that stuff they put in those containers with the water in the bottom??? Where can you buy it?? The stuff I'm thinking of isn't in the usual places like Walmart, Lowe's, etc...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

ProMix is a soilless mix. It is made from everything but dirt. LOL! It dries out quicker than soil, but it is about the only thing I use anymore because I can buy it in 3 cubic foot bags. It is spaghnum, perlite, and bark. Maybe some other stuff in there too.

edited because I forgot to say that our local nursery only uses Promix now. Nothing else other than seedling mix to get plants started and then they transplant directly into ProMix.

I'm so sleepy I'm cross eyed, but, Shirley, I'd like to know if you use the ProMix every time you move them up in pots, like from seedlings to adult plants??? Someone growing for Walmart is using ProMix and it dries out in a flash, but the plants are super...is ProMix the brand???? TIA!!!

Margie, it is divine, elegant, yet fancy and it looks like it smells so good you could eat it!!!! Some don't like the whites as well as others, but I'd say white is my second fav, there is nothing like beautiful white to wake up a garden, makes me notice everything even more. I really want a white double!!! I'm so happy for you, Margie!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Sherry...thank-you! Actually I really like white in flowers....reminds me of snow, which I don't get to see much anymore!! It looks so cooling to me!

I am awaiting my most expensive daylily called "Margo Reed Indeed"....and guess what color it is.....WHITE, the first white spider !!

Remind me when my brug gets larger and I will give you a cutting!

I can't wait for the day when I will have more than one brug blooming on a plant at one time!!!

She is very pretty! Is it Species or CDW?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Me too Jean. I had two blooming for one day, then the rain got them before I could show anyone,

monika...I am not really sure what it is...when I posted the first flower when I first came to the brug forum, I think members said to call it CDW ! What would distingish CDW from species?
Thanks all for your comments and compliments.
Brugie...you sure do know how to grow brugs quickly!! I guess I have to experiment more!

What a difference an hour makes!! It opened and two more to come.

I love to see the excitement over a bloom. I did it too and still get excited....but I sure wish I could be with you all when you have a tree full of them. I know I feel like a kid in a candy store when mine bloom heavy.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Maybe next year. Mine are all still young and not much top growth.

Sherry, if you click on a members name, you will go to a page where you can send an email to them. It will come into your email program on your computer like all other emails.

The above double looks like CDW to me,how is the scent?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

rooty...the scent is mild but sweet, when you put your nose right up to it...almost...excuse me while I go and take a whiff... almost honeysuckle like...very mild, but nice & I don't care for strong fragrances...so I like it!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Very well could be CDW,it is great whatever it is!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

thanks rooty...I like it too!!

San Jose, CA

way to go margie, your seedlings and double white look great. my double white is about 2-3 feet high and seems to continually have flowers on it although only one or two at a time. when the flower is finished, there are more buds about to open soon. currently i've got a single white open on it instead of a double. it's the second single i've seen on it. kind of neat!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

picturelady, I dont know, if Species and CDW are identical with the european candida double whites. I have Species. It looks different from TuTu. But I dont have CDW.
