Chlorine poisoning

Covington, LA(Zone 9b)

Hi,
I have a small Home Depot plastic pond. The chlorine is killing one of my shrubs, because when I add water, some of the water runs over. (I wasn't aware of the harm it was causing until it was almost??? too late.) Is there any way to save this shrub before it is totally dead? Actually, it is a tree. I'm not sure of the name. It's the type of tree that is evergreen and grows very uniformly to a peak...and is a cedar type leaf. I was wondering if I could amend the soil to counteract the chlorine, also. Any help you could give is appreciated. This tree/shrub is a terrible loss to the area I have it in.

Are you certain it is chlorine killing it? What are its symptoms?

I am sorry if I misunderstand. Do you put chlorine in your pond or are you saying your tap water is full of chlorine? The water from my pond is beneficial or in the least, not harmful to any of my plants.

Did you damage the root system whn you dug the pond?
