Wintered over in the ground And has come up in several places, the ears didn't get very big last year,do they get bigger as the tubers get older?
Can they get as big as the regular taro ears you buy at walmart?
Floridas running elephant ear
don't know which ones you are talking about the big bulbs, the ones in the bag?
Yes the big ones.
Tropicman, watch those running ears, they will take over your garden if you aren't careful. In the warmer zones, they cover large areas and nothing will stop them.
My bulbs never got big like the taro bulbs.
Yes, they will get some bigger as the tubers get older, but that one does not get huge. You want big, I can send you big. Almost as invasive. they will show up everywhere. Xanthasoma, the plant is almost 7 feet tall. Each leaf is huge! I can imagine how big the tuber is.

Rylaff,I have both the Xanthasoma, and the colocasia bulbs,Iwas just wondering about the running one,I was surprised it live here in zone6 winters, and was just wonderong if the leaves ever got very big.I also have the leater leaf red stem looking ones and wondered how big the leaves get on them as well?
I am surprised too. I guess you have a nice microclimate in there. My biggest colocasia leaf is 19 inches right now (although I know they get bigger than that). My biggest xanthasoma leaf is 45 inches, tip to tip. I love your red stem one!!!!
You amaze me. How you can do what you do where you live is just short of incredible. I live in Florida and dont have the results you do.
Nice thumb TM! LOL And I love your EE! I have the running ee and the ee bulb and they are both doing great here in OK! We will see what happens next year as I plan to leave them both in the ground.
Well if we have another warm winter, they probably will do ok!
Mine came back here, because of a good straw mulch, will see what next winter brings.Good luck there as well!
