Thank you Delisa!

Isabella -- I would imagine that she'll darken up tomorrow. She started out yellow and is now pure white. Smells heavenly... Happy evening to everyone!!! Gretchen

Gretchen, aren't these plants just a joy to watch. You always have such lovely photos.

You are going good! Mine hasnt bloomed yet this year. It was left in the ground this winter and died back. Last year I had some many blooms off of her. She had many flushes.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

She has sent me squat so I am not going to thank her! LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Isabella wasn't a big bloomer for me either Kell, so I sent her packing. I needed the space anyway and when there are so many brugs out there, why not change the scenery from time to time. LOL! She is a pretty brug but now I've changed....I want dark, dark, dark with just a little light sprinkled in between the dark plants. You know I'll never get what I want. That would require a full time yard man.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I have her still,I thought mine had a pink to her,Gretchen, can you give us another picture?is she getting a little color?

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Ohhh OH! LOL I see Kell!! Oooops! I thought it was different.
Great picture Gretchen. The bloom looks huge!!

Auburn, WA(Zone 8b)

My Isabella doesn't like to bloom either. Maybe it's the cooler nights we have here??? They are good for sleeping with the windows open (it was 80+ yesteday but 48 when we got up this am). A lot of the summer plants are still not growing much. The versicolors are getting happier slowly. If Isabella doesn't come around she'll be sacrificed to make room for Susie's '03 seedlings that will bloom for me this summer & be gorgeous! Linda in WA

Well, here she is this morning...

Around noon:

And here's the whole plant -- these are planted on the west side of an oak tree and they get afternoon sun. When I bought the lot of brugs from Nestor I got an Isabella cutting that I managed to get four plants out of, so I now have 5 of these and they are all loaded with big buds!

Thank you again, Delisa! I love her and think she's happy in her new home!

And, sorry to boor you all with my common brug pix, but I just can't help myself...

Beautiful. I find it so hard to tell some of the brugs apart. This one of mine is so similar to yours Gretchen, but a hair darker. It too blooms when it's coller, evening and early morning, then closes again for the heat of the day. I bought from a nursery, as "pink"

Not ment to hijack thread, but to compare.

Great photos, The last ones to added, look identical to what my plant, buds and flowers are. Hopefully I might have an Isabella.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Hi MG - thanks, and no problem, that's what this forum is all about :)

The one difference I've noticed between the Frosty Pink and Isabella is that my Frosties all have five points, like the brug in your picture, and the Isabella that just opened has six points. That, and at this stage it is a little paler than Frosty and Insignis Coral. I don't know if all Isabellas have 6 and all Frosties have 5, just a personal observation...

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks G ! I am glad she colored up for you,I remember mine as having a heavier collar of color,I hope she does the same this year,we will see.
MG, feel free to post pics on any of my threads, like Gretchen says, that is what we are all about, and believe me,that is not a Hijack,LOL! Hijack is when they take a full turn, say to talking about,Moonrocks,LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And we like hijacked threads also! makes for more interesting reading ! Just hijack it back if you want! LOL

Gretchen, I think yours is so pretty and it looks like a ready made alley tree. Delisa must have sent you a nice trunk piece. Lucky you!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks Root and Kell. Yes, she sent a beautiful cutting -- long and straight and its making a nice tree. I just have to keep moving my support string so it doesn't damage the tree worse than the sind has. It has a nice shoot coming off the bottom that I'm saving for someone special -- my Mother :)

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I sent out what I had. Just trying to help others get started with brugs like some some who helped me. Glad Isabella is so interesting a brug.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Isabella is a classy one..............jmho

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gretchen, brug pictures are never boring. I enjoyed Isabella for a while, but with so many great brugs out there, I had to change to something different. I do it every year. Keep some, toss some, but always get new ones or grow more seedlings.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I know Brugie, enjoy today, gone tomorrow. Too many brugs coming at us! If only we all had huge lots that came with gardeners!! LOL!

Gretchen, how sweet you are saving it for your Mom. Brugie sent my mother 2 brugs and she can't believe how fast they are growing!

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Gretchen I just noticed how you attach the tags to your brugs. Great idea and those ties come in large sizes that can be left looser so they wouldnt cut into the stalk.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can't see any tags Delisa. She must have a great way if you can't see them easily. I hate how mine always show up in a perfect pic and ruin it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Clear down near the ground Kell.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I almost lost a brug due to the zip tie cutting the trunk, so my current way is to either attach them loosely to a Y branch, but they are not very pretty that way, so on the ones that I have staked, the tag is attached to the stake which is a steel rebar rod. So, no way to damage the stalk, but I do have to keep moving the support ties. I need to find something attractive to cushion them with, or better yet, buy some green velcro. Shoot, I've been trying to get to the fabric store ever since I found about about bward's black cotton velvet...

Anyway, thank you all, I am enjoying her as I hope my Mother will next year!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh, I totally missed that picture when I was looking for the tag. I almost missed it again and was going to say I sure can't see it. I use those ties also but longer ones. With a mini blind. I love miniblinds. I am almost thru my first complete blind. Do you believe all those tags?

Gretchen, how much was that rebar? How long do they come? Is it hard to get into the ground? I am sick of paying $5 per 6 ft redwood stake that rots after a year. thanks

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Kell: I bought them last year from a local hardware store that cut them to the lengths I specified for about $1 apiece. Sometimes they'll have odd lengths lying around and give them to you free of charge. I use a 3lb sledge to pound them in and its not difficult at all. I need some more, as many are too short for the brugs. I can promise you, they will last for a long time. You might try HD... And yes, my labels are from a $1.50 Wally World mini-blind that I made pointed plant markers, then cut off the tip and punched a hole in the same tag to make it a hang tag. Works great! And the zip-ties are also pretty permanent, but easy enough to cut if they need to be moved.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

$1?? So I ask for rebar? I can't believe they are just $1

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Yes, you will have a better chance at a small, neighborhood type store on both the price and having them cut it for you, but I don't know for sure, since I've never purchased it from HD. In this part of Texas its used extensively in the construction of slab foundations for buildings and also used in road construction. I've used it for plant support for years, and you really can't beat it. Its durable, strong and not as noticeable as some commercial plant stakes. HB or Lowes may have it already cut in specific lengths for sale. I'll be anxious to hear if you find at either of those places, as I'm in need of more and my little hardware store closed their store here, earlier this year :(

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Our HD or Lowes doesn't have it cut. I think it comes in eight FT. pieces. I didn't check the price. I just wanted to see what it looked like.

Gretchen, does it rust badly?

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Ada: Mine has not rusted. It gets a little bit here and there, but not what you would expect. I used a bunch of it last year to put up my "temporary" chicken wire barriers around some of the beds to keep my Golden out of them, and its still up (he's untrainable). They are just a dark brown color that is not bad looking at all...

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

You know, maybe a coat of green rustoleum would look good and keep your hands from getting rusty....I think I will be stopping by HD today.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Jenks, I'm sure that would work great. I just didn't bother because they blend in fine just the way they are. Actually, they look about the same color as the tree bark, and I think they would stand out more if they were painted green... JMHO

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

I am a terrible writer! I only tell half the story! I've not ever noticed them in any of your pictures so they must blend in perfectly! I have green ones already-they're actually not quite long enough or strong enough for two in particular-I just thought I'd match them-they go all around my back porch and I have the stakes facing the porch. But they are the exact same diameter as that rebar and would be perfect! Too many to switch colors now.....;)

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great pictures.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I used to use rebar to stake my plants until once when we lived in the country lightening struck one of them. It was sitting close to a tree and it knocked all the bark off the tree, blackened all the plants in the bed, fried our computer, a tv and 2 phones. Since then I just use the bamboo sticks. The rebar does work great, but since that happened, I've been afraid to use it.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh, Sylvia! I never even thought of that!!! I'm now an accident waiting to happen -- I put in 15 more 6 footers today! Egad!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, I don't know if I should use them or not. Lightning strikes real regular around here with so much rock in the ground. I've touched my cement porch and the the water spigot and got shocked and I had the power company to come out and check it. They said that there was so much rock in the soil and when it gets very dry, the electricity travels. Sounds weird but that was the explanation I got from two sources. I know lightning sure strikes around here too often to suit me.
