Anyone got blooming glad pics?

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

ok i went all out thisyear to plant all different types of glads this year.. unfortunatly , the glads i got from home depot are not the colors at all that they are suppose to be!!!! the greens are white, the purples are white, mon amore looks to me like precilla (sp?) and the peach ones are tangerine..but none the less theyare all still beautiful! so here are some pics.. if anyone has pics they want to share, i would love to see them.. (: these are my yellow ones from two years ago.. i have peach ones too but they havent shown up yet... dunno why...

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

frog, how come urs have been gone already... ? my baby corms and the glad seeds i planted in oct have been coming up now for about two weeks... is urs still green?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Mine bloomed in March and April. They are dried up and cut back for next year. I only have a couple in deep shade blooming now. Mine always bloom for Easter. Dunno why. Warm, dry weather? Silly things will come up whenever you plant them here. My Dad's in Napa are also in full flush now.

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

here are my red ones.. dont remember the name of this one...

And here is Pink Dreams.

I'll try to get a pic of Blue Tropic this afternoon.

I planted late, so mine are still blooming. Tho this weather has been wreaking havoc with my gardens. It seems as soon as they bloom, the weather acts up and they get broken. =( Ah well, they make good cut flowers . . .

I want to wear Pink Dreams, looks like a dance skirt.

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

blooms, that is such a beautiful glad!!!! was that a species glad? thats too bad if she did give them all away, but then again at least she gave them to people who would like them and take care of them.. i bet though she still has babies popping up in that spot!..lol. i could have sworn i had gotten every babie out of two whiskey barrels but there are quite a few growing there still.. (:

sundry, thats beautiful.. mine must be saturn then.. cause saturn looks kinda like comet but it is a pinker purple.. some of my glads have yucky looking blooms.. they look like they are partially dried out.. all the new ones anyway..the old ones i have had for several years are fine.. but the new ones when they are starting to bloom just look sickly.. and i just love that pink one.. its soooo beautiful!!!!

frog, mine always bloom in end of may thru june.. dunno why , i think u guys have cooler weather then us inland..do u have any pics of ur glads??? i'd love to see them.. i just love glads...(:

I bought Comet for my sister, who is a big LSU fan. She loves the purple and gold flowers. =)

I've been a bit disappointed in the glads, too. Thing is, years ago we had a bed full of big flowered beautiful glads - all different colors. No names, mind you, just big beautiful flowers.

Eventually the trees grew and shaded the yard and all the glads died out. =( Recently, we've had to take down a couple of trees, so I have some small areas of full sun. Now I want them back!

The ones I've bought just don't measure up to those from the past. (do they ever???) I'm going to keep on trying, tho.

This is a bad picture of Blue Tropic. It's the only one that's bloomed so far, and it got broken in last night's weather. The color is hard to capture . . . this is pretty close, but not exact.

I love that comet. So beautiful! I only have a few scapes at the moment but when they bloom Ill post pics. Thanks cici77 keep me coming.

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Well, I use whatever I can find. I do have a couple of those fancy ones, you know it's basically a stake with the circle at the top? I'm not good at describing! But for the most part---bamboo stakes. I put them behind and tie them loosely with twine. And I try to hide the twine! :)

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

i'll try dravencat...lol.. thanx sue, i had to use the Christmas lights that i have on that white fan trelis to hold the red ones up... u cant see the lights around the glads.. at least i think u cant.. now i'll have to go look... lol.. (: here are a barrel full of glads.. although i see some dead stalks on there...opps.. should have broken those off before i took the pic.. oh well here they are anyway...lol

I have a long 30 ft bed with glads and asst other flowering plants....I put a good sturdy stake at each eand and fasten wire up and down the stakes every 8 to 10 inches running the full length of the stakes. As my glads get heavy they lean into the wire and are held up. The wire just disappears (mostly)....however it is odd to look out at the bed and see birds apparently sitting in mid air :-)
I promise to post pix when they start to bloom....should be in just a couple more weeks I would assume.

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Nice Rikerbear! Yeah! lets all share our glad photos when they open. And CiCi keep em' coming! Your glads look great in that barrel. Wow, love your yard view!! I miss Calif at times. I grew up in SoCal. I love the desert.

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

rikerbear, please do send ur pics.. i bet that bed is AWESOME... cant wait to see everyones glads..did i mention i love glads? lol... i had some type of glad bloom that i dont remember planting.. prob another wtong one put in a bag i bought.. i know i bought polianthes, and some acidanthera and planted but havent seen hide nore hair of them... but these were small light purple to pale fushia, they dont even look like glads other then the leaves and the stalks.. i'll see if i can find a pic of them ...here is a pic of one of my fav. garden art pieces with a bunch of glads planted behind her..

Thumbnail by cici77
Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

My glad bed is also my wildflower bed....so I get all kinds of 'purdies' popping up in and among the glads. Lots of poppies, coneflower, bachelor buttons, and assorted things I have no idea what they are but they're purdy none the less.
I promise to send pix soon.

opps meant to say, sue, where about in so. ca. did u live... i live kinda in the desert but its all clay here.. but if u go in the pasture up on the hill u can see the palm springs windmills from up there....(: this area where i am showing all my glads are not really my yard.. well it is for now till the house is finished.. but its about 300 to 400 ft away from the house, everyone who sees all of the improvements i have done just since 0ct 03, they all ask me , why did u do all these beautiful gardens way out here away from ur house.. and i always tell them because they are gonna be gardens from the house to waaay out here anyway... plus if i put a bunch of effort to the ones out here now, then they wont be left behind in creativity later, not only that but we temp. live where all the gardens are now and everyone who comes by for a BBQ or just to visit, enjoy the smell of the flowers and to see how much they have grown... the view from the horse pasture is beautiful!!! if i find a pic of that , i'll post it.. the horses have a better view then i do..lol... they even have ridges up there where they stand and look out...well here is a pic of where some of the glads are, (dont mind the weeds, this bed is getting all re-done come fall) but u can see our house in progress in the background.. even this bed is about 30 to 40 ft from where the hammock and barrel of glads are...

Oh how your photos make me long for the desert! I'm in a garden paradise here in WA, for sure. But I am and always will be a desert girl. Today we got a taste of nice heat, forecast was 78 but we saw 95 here in our garden today. I love every second of it. Put a shade cloth on the greenhouse so I can still try to grow some seeds...probably kidding myself!

Your house is looking good, and I have no doubt your gardens will be equally fantastic!! Cuz we all know, our gardens do take time to flourish. I started our garden in 96 and let it go until 2000, when I began in earnest to create what hopefully will one day be our finished garden. But you know what they (we? lol... ) say, the garden is NEVER finished! Well, thank goodness for that!

oops edited to say, I grew up in San Diego!

Sue, I had to laugh when I read your post!

This morning I found a scape of Comet flopped over on the ground. So I grabbed a swamp iris leaf and tied it to a (not yet blooming) scape of Golden Game.

Here's a pic, tho you can't see where they are tied together. Comet seems to flop over more than the others . . .

Ha haaa! WELL now we know Comet is a bad .............gladioulous. NO FLOPPING allowed! I am keeping an eye on it. If it would just start blooming already!!

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

ohhhhhh sundry!!!!! that glad is to die for!!!!!! its beautiful.. i am so disapointed in not having a singe real purple bloom.. i know i sound like a whiner! lol.. guess that better then being a wino'.... lol.. anyway i sure am glad u guys are posting pics too cuz i would hate to be the only one here posting pics.. (:

sundry, i bet u are in a garden paradise... all that lush greenery... but like u i am a desert or at least heat girl... its cooler today , prob like 89 but last week it was in the high 90's... hot hot.. and it wont be long before we are in the teens of the 100's... and yes ur right.. a garden is NEVER done...thats one thing i love about it... (: i have moved soooo many things in the past month, that i had been planting since jan. due to the gophers... i almost cant keep up with it... i was finally caught up on the weeding (hubby hired his helper to come weed with me) which i thought i would never get a hold on... and just as i was doing simple things in the garden like clipping back old dead roses, the gophers struck hard... it was an endless battle... luckily mama kitties babies are old enough to go outside now , so it makes her stick around where they are, and they happen to looove playing in all my flowers that she caught two of the worst gophers... so for now i have peace from the gophers.. anyway , here is a pic of that view.. oh and sundry, i used to live in OB and work at sea world! lol.. (:

Thumbnail by cici77
Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

rikerbear, ur beds sounds scrumptious!!!!! i wish i could grow anything i wanted in the ground...but with all the gophers around here i just end up feeding the @!#$erds.... that big bed that i said dont mind the weeds, i will plant that full or iris... i was gonna do it as daylilies but they occasionally eat them too.. but havent touched any iris yet!!!! keeping my fingers crossed!!!(:

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL cici77! Being a wino might not be bad . . .

It's hot, but that's ok with me. It's the rain that's making me nuts! I've got lots of greenery- unfortunately, most of it is weeds . . .LOL! Thankfully not in the main garden areas, mostly in areas I'm 'working on'. Today's high was only 90º but the yard is too wet and squishy to do much in. If it doesn't rain tonight, tomorrow will be better. At least I don't have to worry about gophers!

Sue, I had every intention of staking my glads . . . *sigh* Somehow, it just didn't happen. I'll do better next year (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

Wow Sue I spent a good many years in San Diego too...Normal Heights (not so 'normal') hehehehehe
I was no gardener then...oh if I had only known all that I could have grown there. But at 20 somthing gardening was not real high on my priority list. Oh well.............

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

sundry, LA is beautiful.. hubby and i passed thru it when we tried our hand at truck driving (didnt work for me!) we had to go to baton rough (sp?) beautiful country and the nicest people u could meet... but VERY humid (even for oct.) and the swamps were just amazing.. seeing people living in them with boats tied to their houses was awesome.. reminded me of pirates of the carribean ride... but it would freak me out living in the swamps.. i guess i have seen too many scarey movies.. lol.. we have a dry heat out here...although in aug. it gets to about 115 to 118 with 40% humidity.. but it isnt bad if u soak urself down every 15 to 20 min or so..lol.. we get a continous breeze here so the wind feels great against ur wet skin, it really cools u down...

here is a pic of the bright red glads i posted above, but in a group setting.. their are still stalks that havent bloomed yet.. and i know my directional post loks unfinished because it is.. i plan on putting some type of bigger sigh at the top and more directional signs as i create more gardens... also dont mind the stork garden art there.. he isnt staying there he is only visiting..lol.. i had to get him because my hubby and i are trying for a babe and well i figure it doesnt hurt to have baby positives around...lol.. the stork even has a baby bundle hanging out of his mouth,. i will bring him somewhere near the house when we move in.. (:
