Maniac Drivers!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I know this post doesn't belong in this forum either, like the daylilly, but I wanted my friends to see this.

I live on an intersection that doesn't have any stops, the people driving are just supposed to yield to the right. HA! Like that ever happens. I see people barrell through this intersection going 45+ all the time (mind you it is 25 here, I drive 15 to 20) and many children and pets crossing.

Going to Make a SIGN!!!! Will post it in my front garden:

"MARTHA DOESN'T LIVE HERE, SO IT'S OK TO DRIVE SLOWLY"

I know just how you feel. The entrance out of our subdivision is just past a large rise in the road. The posted speed limit on this road is 30 mph. It is very heavily traveled, especially between 7 and 9 a.m. and 4 and 6 p.m. Everyone seems to drive it between 50 and 60 mph. There have been a number of accidents along this stretch of road, at least 3 of them fatal. We have lived here 9 yrs. and I have yet to see a policeman anywhere around. They could write tickets all day long, if they wanted to. Maybe if they patrolled it closer, people would slow down. It's dangerous enough at 30 mph, but at 60 it is an accident waiting to happen. You don't see the cars until they come over the hill which is just a few feet away from the entrance (exit).

Just a thought but it might be helpful if you wrote a letter to the police dept. or other local magistrate. Its sad but in order to make anyone do anything anymore you have to put it in writing and give them a date to respond by. Even the schools are like that anymore.
I got lucky sorta, my street is basicaly a main route also to several streets but ever since I helped get the drug dealers out of the house across the street, the police drive thru at "least" once or twice a day. It hasnt gotten all the speeders or super loud radios to stop but it has helped cut it down imensly.

HERE HERE.....I get so frustrated at the hig speeds on our road too. Use to be a country road untill up the road was developed. One day i was so mad while i was working in my yard ...the cars were just speeding through here and when they seen i was close to the road seems they went even faster. So , one day i got a box and just set it in the middle of the road...just to see what would happen....I sat on my porch swing and laughed till i thought i would pee my pants.....they ALL HAD to slow down to keep from hitting the box. I know this might not have been the best thing to do but the vision is clear and no one could have NOT seen it. So the chance of an accident would have been unlikely. they are lucky i didnt put a brick in it. One car actually saw it slowed down and then ran it over...go figure.....

Telling the city has done no good....they just ignore us...and it wouldnt be so bad if we didnt have children on this street.

We live on a MAJOR route. One of the only one's that goes by all of the finger lakes. Trailors, Motorcycles, cars you name it, fly through the 40 mph zone. My dogs are old 13 and 11 They don't see well and certainly don't hear well. We tend to be porch monkeys with friends stopping by all the time, they poke fun at me but I run right out there pretending to enter the road, and on occasion, have gotten some tires to squeel. Serves em right, SLOW DOWN I scream. And yeah I've gotten a couple fingers in the air but too bad. A family who lives down the road put a cutout of their dog, one of the black one's down by the road. I even slow down thinking it's real, and I've driven by it about a hundred times!

Turns out we missed all the action on our corner this past weekend because we were at the lake.

Apparently, two mini-vans when tearing through the corner at the same time, neither looking. Guess one of them flipped two times, flew through the air and totalled itself on my neighbor's big pine tree. It was a bad one this time.

Yesterday afternoon and evening I was reading on the front porch, just to see more of them - not looking, speeding through - they just don't "GET IT"!

We get 1 or 2 every summer.
