Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Last March (2003) when I first became intereseted in growing brugs and started begging everyone for cuttings this was the first one that was sent to me. It was given by Brugie (Shirley) and it has grown very well for me and is one of the few that i've managed to keep from getting the creeping crud that i've had on my brugs the past few months.
Last year it was covered with buds many times during the season but they all dropped off so I never got to see it bloom.
I've since followed some expert advice and grown it in it's permanent pot in one location without moving it around a lot. It's now starting to form it's first set of new buds for 2004. With any luck i'll get to see this one bloom this year. I better get to anyway because the thought crossed my mind more than once last season to trash it if it didn't show some flowers!

Wow David! That looks great. Wouldn't it be magnificent covered with blooms! I hope the buds stay on for you.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Gosh David! It looks wonderful! I also hope they stay on for you! Wishing you lots of luck, and keeping my fingers crossed!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I can see it with about 100-150 triple orange flowers open at once!!!
It'll probaly never happen but hey I can still wish can't I?!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

It's a nice looking tree. I hope it blooms it's little heart out for you.

How big of a cutting did you start with? Just curious as to how fast it has grown for you.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

David ... will keep my fingers crossed for you! Beautiful tree and canopy. You did good! Yard looks beautiful.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

When Brugie first sent this plant to me it must have been around a foot or so tall. It grew quite fast for me but I had it planted directly in the ground. I knew that it would be one of the few brugs that would not be winter hardy here for me so it was dug and wintered over in my gh in a 10gallon pot this past winter. I will leave it in this pot and use the same growing conditions for it each year. Winter in teh gh and sat back in the same spot in the yard every spring until time for it to go back in the gh.
I've been told that this one should be grown like this for it to grow and bloom well.So this is how i'm doing it this year. The new buds have some size to them already so maybe just maybe i'll get to see in person this year an actual HG flower.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Best of luck on the blooms, David. I hope mine will bloom this year.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Ada,
I'd be satisfied with just one open flower, just so I could say I saw it bloom!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL I know what you mean, David.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

That is a pretty large club,I am in it,just to see one!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Crossing my fingers for you David

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've seen just one bloom and now I'm wanting to see more. I'm still going to toss mine if it doesn't show me some color this year. No room to keep brugs that don't perform for me. I hope you have good luck with yours David. Don't forget to take pictures for those of us who are still waiting. LOL!

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

Good luck David. I hope HG blooms well for you and soon. I bought my HG last year and she bloomed last month. However, she never dropped her skirts.

Sweet De.even with the skirt up.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh its such a beautful color!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Best of luck David, she looks good and healthy.
Mine took about a year to even put on buds but once she started she bloomed and bloomed.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

David that is such a great looking brug tree and you will hopefully see lots of buds and blooms. That sadly is one of the cuttings you send me that never made it. I think from what i have read that it HG is fairly difficult to grow and get to bloom, so I will not feel bad that I uas unsuccessful in getting to grow, yours looks wonderful. Donna

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

delecie, that blossom just takes my breath away, it is truly lovely!!!

Good luck David, your tree is beautiful and so healthy, I love the shape and I hope it's full of blooms soon, I cannot wait to see photos!!!!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

David, the brug looks so healthy and is beautifully shaped. Also, your flowerbed looks so neat and orderly. Even though it is not blooming, it looks great.

Delecie that bloom is gorgeous, and maybe she was too much of a lady to drop her skirt. LOL

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

LOL minigrannie. Thanks everyone for the compliments. However, I sort of have the same mindset as Brugie. HG is occupying prime plant real estate but I'm not really receiving a return on my investment. I'm thinking of digging her up and planting her in a 5 gallon pot and sitting her in an out of the way corner. She'll still have a chance at life and I'll no longer have to look at that unsightly sewer cover. LOL

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

The flower is still pretty Delecie. Maybe later on in the season the skirtrs will start to drop on them for you. I really like the color of the bloom also.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Delecie,

Proof that I'm a beginner ......... If you hadn't told me there was something wrong with the bloom, I'd never had known. It looks beautiful to me. (But I do understand how you can get to the point of being choosy .... some day.....)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure looks good to me. My one and only bloom was scrawny and only lasted three days.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The plant looks very healthy. I keep my fingers crossed, that it will bloom for you.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I sneaked a peak at the little buds again today. They are already farther along in size than any of them ever got last year, and they are still intact!!! Maybe this will be my year.

Only time will tell,so I guess I just need to stop looking at and talking about them or they might go ahead and fall off. That seems to be what happened last year. Every time I told someone that my HG had buds they would drop off the next day! So it looks like the best thing to do is if you get buds on this one, don't brag about it. (LOL)

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Don't look at the buds. You'll scare them off.

Great looking plant.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

That is one of the prettiest HG's that I have seen. It has really grown. I have a feeling that you will see blooms on this one. I hope your temps stay pretty much the same as they are now because I think that will help when it comes to the buds staying on.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee David, that brug is beautiful. I can just imagine it having tons of huge blooms hanging down. I have a few HG plants and never even have had a bud. I must say you really grow great looking brugs.
