Giant Timber Bamboo, Oldham's Bamboo
Bambusa oldhamii
BambusaOldhamii planted Fall 2003. June culm #1. I gave it a name: The Gipper
Giant Timber Bamboo, Oldham's Bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii)
That sorta looks like a peculiarly small area to be rearing such an mighty beast. How are you going to keep the shoots from pushing through your brick walkway in a year or so?
It's a lovely plant.....but I'd also be concerned about the placement. Once it is established it will become more sure of itself and begin some rapid multiplication of the culms. Do you have it within a barrier? If so, it probably will be OK. :-) Even though it is a clumping variety and not as prone to becoming invasive, it is a LARGE plant.
Here are some images of mine to give you an idea of the possible growth (and it probably does better in LA than here because our winters are colder).
2001 - about a year after the 24" box was planted (the arbors were moved and the greenhouse now stands in their place)
