worm eating my brug

Savannah, GA(Zone 8b)

just found a LARGE green horned worm eating leaves on my recently planlted brug. Should I destroy this ( worm )or could it be a caterpillar? Is the brug a host plant for butterflies?
need to know ASAP
thanks,
Chris

We get the tomato horn worm here and they become bird food as quick as I can kill them. Actually, I'm not sure the birds would even like them.

lol Im dreading the day I see one on my brugs. I remember playing with them as a kid, from my moms tomato plants. I just get willies thinking of having to touch them again. I know some snip them with scissors. I dont know what I will do lol.

I found a huge black caterpillar with a bright green stripe down the middle of its back eating on one of my brugs last week. Obviously, there were more, because several have their leaves almost stripped. Also, all of them have holes all in them, but I don't see anything on them. I thought it was slugs and snails, but my hostas are hardly bothered at all, and that is what they usually chew on.

LOL Sylvia, they just prefer the taste of Brugs over the Hosta taste.

The ONLY plants that I have that have bug bites are hibiscus, and only my dwarfs, and brugs. Does anyone else have that problem. Odd thing is that the hibiscus have that spider web kinda bites and the brugs 'just' have holes or halves of leaves eaten. Anyone have a clue what this might be???? I have tons of other plants and none have been bothered. TIA!!

Oh man, I just came home from a few days away and found all my coral honeysuckle stripped of every leaf (I have about 20 plants) by those darn green, horned cats! I had not seen one before we left... What a bummer!!!

Man, Gretchen, I am sooooooooo sorry!!!! My coral honeysuckle has been a BIG disappointment, it 'catches' everything, bugs, mildew, etc.
I also have Mardi Gras, sp, honeysuckle and it does no better. I'm turning in my honeysuckle interests, this is my last year!!!! I think it's the humidity, but I had zero trouble growing wild honeysuckle, I really wish I had stuck with that, it really worked for it's room and board, ya know??!! I regret your honeysuckle problems, but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person that's had problems...

Boy, they are hungry critters. I've seen them demolish a tomato plant in no time and they aren't always easy to find. Sorry you lost your leaves. However, I'm glad it wasn't your driveway alley brugs.

Now that would be a disaster!

Funny, I have been looking at honeysuckle in nurseries here lately but I can remember when my father would spend days trying to kill it around our house. It would choke out everything. It was considered an out of control weed.

Sherry: Thank you. It will hopefully come back -- it is usually a great performer here, and I've never had these cats before. I hope I've been able to save them.

Shirley: And how! Now that would be crying material!!! I'm thinking that maybe the Bayer Systemic that I finally broke down and dosed them with is really helping with the bugs problem on the brugs.

Kell: This honeysuckle is so pretty and the hummers and butterflies love it. Here's a closeup of a bloom:

I finally purchased some of the Bayer rose food with systemic and need to dose my brugs while they still have some leaves. I've never had this kind of problem before. Must be the mild weather and all the rain.

Sylvia: Make sure you give them the recommended amount. That kind of stuff scares me, so I was meticulous in the way I applied it. I mixed each quart individually for each plant, but have decided that the next time I do it, I'll mix up four gallons (I think a bottle feeds 16 plants) at a time, and deliver the dose to each brug one quart at a time. Well, now that I've totally confused you! Anyway, its time to do mine again, just trying to find sometime to do it...Gretchen
