My first to bloom was/is a deep dark burgandy, almost black.
Which is I guess still in the red family......maybe it is the reds first... hmmmmmm
Great color Rylaff

Dahlias behave like the stoplite.....Red/orange first to tell you to stop and when you have done all the aws and ahs then you can continue......next are the yellow/white.....you have used up all your aws and ahs and therefor just increase speed and don't even look.....lastly are the green.....nothing to pay attention to.....on to the next thing.

Do any of you grow dahlias from seed? I saved some tubers from last year and didn't plant seeds this year. Will probably let them die this fall as it is easier for this ole lady to plant out seedlings then to dig big holes for the tubers. You really get beautiful flowers and forms - just like the bulbs you can buy. Make sure your are buying the large dahlias as opposed to the "border" dahlias seeds.

rylaff, How beautiful! Mine will start blooming any day and I am so excited!

I think this may start me collecting something new! Do you think you will have to stake the blooms?
