Amazing, I don't know how it happened...but this one has a name tag, I will believe it, when I see the flower...
Charles Grimaldi
Then there is this one, that says it is Isabella...
BTW the CG is setting on top of a trash can that is full of alfalfa tea...I mainly use that on my roses, but brugs like it too, right?
My DH was just outside, and he came in, and informed me, that 'something outside is stagnant' he was being kind, as that stuff STINKS!
Melva: I think your top brug is not a CG, but maybe a Dr. Seuss? From what I've read, CG doesn't have serrated leaves, but DS does. I think DS is the pod parent of CG, so they're closely related. Is that the true color or the leaves? They look like they could use a dose of fertilizer. DS has a more yellow tinted leaf than many of the other brugs, but they are all heavy feeders and a good dose of a nitrogen rich fertilizer may have that baby looking really sweet in a short time. The alfalfa may be releasing too slowly. Someone with more knowledge than I should come along here and offer up something better... Other than that, its a nice looking plant! Gretchen, 'a fellow Texan brug nut!'
Hey to a fellow Texan!
I don't think that color is true...there was too much light when I took it, the color is washed out. I hope to be out there where the Brug. is tomorrow morning (if it isn't raining) and I will take another picture...I will check the name tag too. I have Dr Suess...perhaps the tags got switched? Happens all the time, with the roses, why not the brugs. too? I think the roses trade tags with eachother, when I am not looking...
Melvatoo, 'if' I have a Doctor Seuss, I think, you do too!
I'm no expert, Melva...but maybe this will help:

Gretchen :)
I have a CG and wrote to the person I got it from because it had serrated leaves. I thought it was Dr. S. Don't be surprised if you do have CG because she said her plant was definitely CG. As mine got bigger, it lost the serration and definitely was not Dr. Suess. Sometimes we have to wait until they get some age on them to ID them. Both brugs are good ones, but I think I like CG best now that I've seen it and smelled it.
Oh, Shirley...Sorry for the error on my part, and thank you for the clarification!!! Gretchen :)
Gretchen, it could be a Dr. Suess. These two really can baffle the mind sometimes. My CG had serrated leaves for a long time, but when I saw the bloom size, I knew it wasn't Dr. S. After a while, most of the leaves did lose the serration, but I wasn't convinced for a long time.
So I take it a CG has a much larger bloom than that of DS? Maybe I'll have to put CG on my wish list! Thank you!!!
Gretchen, I had always heard that they were hard to tell apart, but to me, there is a big difference in bloom size. Maybe placement in the garden had something to do with it, but not sure. I also, from my experience with CG, think the blooms are much darker as they age. This isn't the best picture. My experience also showed me that the plant itself, got bigger/taller than DS. This one was from a cutting and is the first summer for it (taken last year).
Wow -- that's gorgeous, Shirley! All of mine are going to have to come a far piece to get that big this summer...but I will tell you that five of my seedlings have nice little 1/2 - 1" buds on them! Pretty exciting...
I love growing seedlings. Much more exciting than growing from cuttings, but I don't want to give up any of them.
Oh, I agree! I just can't wait to see these and I'm amazed at how tall they've gotten this quickly. I think it helped to strip off the bottom leaves, but I don't know that for a fact.
You are doing something right to get such fast blooms Gretchen. Come talk to mine would you? LOL
Brugie, you really know how to get a full flush. Your brugs always look so happy!
I'm still waiting on my first one for this year Kell. Maybe one day if it would just quit raining here. LOL!
Well Kell, they haven't bloomed yet, but there are tons of buds! I think they like Texas -- goofy weather and all :)
