What is eating my leaves?

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I have holes all over my leaves - I don't see bugs on either side and they are in pots. What products should I use to stop the problem?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm having the same problem. Can't find any clues as to what it is. No slug or snail trails, no worm doo, nothing.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I think that there is a bee or wasp that likes to eat them I have never seen one on mine but belive I read it on a tread some were I don't worry about mine bugs got to eat too

We have gotten so much rain, earwigs are in the top/middle, right where buds are forming. I pinch any I see, have been stuck by their scorpion like stinger, hurts!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Haven't seen any earwigs yet. Any particular time of the day to watch for them?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

You can find them in the eveing. This is the time, when they like to hide in the small heart leaves.
Shihtzu, could you post a picture of damaged leaves. We might be able to identify the critter by the look of the damage done.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Earwigs are active at night. In the daytime they hide in dark, moist places. Last year I had a stack of pots turned upside down outside. When I went to use one of the pots there must have been 100 earwigs that fell out. It was really gross! I wish I knew just how they were in there. I'd build the the same type of stack to trap them.

Pete, I'm not seeing many holes in your brugs. You must not have many bugs down there. LOL! I've heard of cutter bees that cut a complete circle out of leaves. They usually hit my roses but have never touched the brugs. Whatever it is eating holes in mine, they must be big and healthy. In a couple of cases, half a leaf is gone.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

I was thinking maybe cutter bees too. What is the shape and size of the holes?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I have some rooted Brugs that the leaves look like lace they have so many holes. I did find a small green worm on one of my trees and I'm seeing snail or slug trails on some of them. It looks like it's going to be a bad insect year here.

Hmm yea thats not cutter bees. They take out perfectly round, smaller than dime size holes. I'll keep looking for what it could be.

Exactly what my leaves look like, thought it was hail damage, but didn't see any hail, only lots of rain.

Finding earwigs in centers of regal lillies, hydrangea blooms, brug centers, in the daytime. Also little green worms on hollyhock lvs. (look like skeleton leaves), maybe I have too many different flowers?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Hibiscus, Organically speaking your plant diversity is what you want. Plus if you can scatter plants instead of planting in alike groups helps also.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I have the skeleton damage on my hibiscus plants - what should be used for that??? I did see a little green worm with lots of legs. My brugs have holes, as well as half eaten leaves. Early on I saw slugs, but I thought I'd gotten them. I have a camellia which had aphids, but I think I've gotten rid of them and the aphids haven't moved in on the brugs and other plants, at least, yet. Is there an all purpose spray for all these bugs, worm, etc. I used Avid on the hibiscus and it did zero...

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Shihtzumom, it looks much like snail damage to me.The holes are not cut into the leaf like caterpillars do but appear to be rasped. I would look for snails.

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

monika - I think you're right. They are in large pots but I bet this could be my problem. I thought because they were in large pots it wouldn't be snails.

duh
