my lupin seeds.
I always thought these pods were the seeds. Well, as I was working with some of them tonight, I decided to slice one open up (like a bean) and there were tiny seeds inside.
Can you plant the whole pod or do you need to take the seeds out of the pod? I know mine self sow themselves, as a pod, but are results better if you take the little seeds out of the pods first?????
For those who received my pods (or are on the way), if you haven't planted them yet, please watch this thread for the answer.

LUPIN SEED POD QUESTION & POST TO THOSE WHO RCVD
I break mine outta the pods- that is if they haven't already exploded themselves! I had a whole batch shower my desk (and floor and bookshelves) this spring when they burst.
OK! Well, my propagation book from the Horticultural Society said to plant them as fresh as possible, so I think what needs to happen, is the people that get these pods, break them open (and the seeds inside should be fresh at that point still) and plant them as soon as they can. Unfortunately, the book didn't include the part about the "pod", lol! I kind of figured that out, as I was cruising the internet on them and started having questions, thus my little experiment tonight, breaking one open and Viola - little seeds! :) Thanks Daisy!
Hi Karrie! I've found this site to be an EXCELLENT and nearly complete listing of seeds and seed pods with photos for identification. I think there was only 1 time that it didn't have a particular seed I was looking to id.
See what he says also about starting Lupin seeds. Nick and soak. Hope this helps some. Bookmark it for future use too!

Thanks Brenda! I do not understand at all why the Horticulture Book of Propagation stated to use "fresh seeds" - very strange. I just bookmarked that link and will use it in the future for many different types that I have. Thanks a bunch!
