Whats wrong with my cocoanut palm?

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 10a)

This is the third year for this palm and it hasn't grown at all. I see others around town that are doing just fine. Any suggestions?

Good morning. I don't have the answer about your coconut palm but you may find some answers here: http://miami-dade.ifas.ufl.edu/programs/fyn/publications/healthy-palms-healthy-landscapes.htm

If you think your palm may be sick, you can read about some palm illnesses here: http://miami-dade.ifas.ufl.edu/programs/urbanhort/publications/A-Word-or-Two-IX.htm

Its a gonner, chop it down before it infects your whole neighborhood's palms. Kidding, do your homework first, I think delecies gonna get mad if you don't read her link.

Did I mention you're too far north for that palm? West Palm Beach has been explained to me as the safest north part of Florida to grow them. Are you sure the others in town are not Queens?

Hey AA, make that links. (LOL) I want you to read my links also and if you don't, your punishment will be to send me your beautiful Monstera Albo 'Half & Half'. :-)

You might contact your County Agricultural Extension Service or Agent...their JOB is to help with problems like this and if it IS "that yellow virus" thingy..to help control it. If it is the Yellow Palm virus (or whatever it's real name is) it could wipe out everything palm related in the area.... We as taxpayers pay their salary and the service is a mine of information....

I know it feel that way, but everyone is trying to help you. you have some powerful suggestions here. Do some homework on that palm for that area, check in with the local nurseries, and hear what they have to say, if you don't believe the gals on this forum, take the suggestion and call the local Agri. department. Out here in Calif. they sent me a 6' 8" kid that didn't know a plumb tree from and apricot tree, I was shocked, he must have slept through that class. LOL I think you would have better luck with the forum gals.

Thank everyone! I will check with some local experts on this problem.

If it is not throwing up new green leaves from the center pointing towards the sky, it has a problem. Or may be it was a smaller nut and so it may be a slow grower.

I have a palm that was a bit yellow in the winter, and the local palm nursery recommended palm food and some iron and to check for bugs. After a good dose of fertilize and iron and some bug spray, it's looking much better. Best to check with the local ag people first though, if it's Lethal Yellows, it will spread and there's no cure. I know that disease wiped out a lot of our native palms here in south Texas and Coconut palms are not allowed at all now. (unless you plant your own coconut and grow one and you must be able to prove where it came from or they will take it away)

Whoops sorry, guys and dolls. LOL

I have a friend writing a book on Palms. I don't know when it's going to be published, I wish he would hurry up. It's been ten years now, and I bet it will be perfect when it is finally done. The Huntington has a huge collection of Palms on the property, perhaps I can ask one of the curators what they know about your palm. We are having Cherry and Oak tree problems. Don't call my Agri. inspecter. LOL Norma
