Banana Question

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Do banana plants prefer being cramped or having nice roomy pots? I am trying to decide where to put my 5' tall Orinoco. Any help would be appreciated.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I keep mine in small pots for the size of the nana.I have had 12 ft trees in 5 gal pots.just feed and water often.

When you put them outside, do you sink the pot in the ground or put them in bigger pots? I have mine sunk in the ground right now but wasn't sure the pot is big enough. This was one of the co-op nanners from last year. Hard to believe it was only about 3" tall last year. LOL

If your having trouble where to put it,well put it in my yard of course!!!!

LOL Let me package that right up. Postage should only be about $15-20. :)

Wow good job on growing that thing Badseed!

Hmmm, so I guess I should have mine in a pot too? Starting to have visions of pulling our Banana up at the end of season and pulling half of the bed with it.........

LOL I put them all in the ground last year (zebrina, basjoo, orinoco) and the smallest still got to 3' from 3" in one season. I potted and stored them. I lost the Basjoos. The Orninoco barely noticed. I thought the Zebrinas were gonners but then they pupped. Whew! The mama bulbs died back though. Ever seen that commercial where the dog takes of running and the sidewalk folds up like an accordian?? I sometimes think of that when pulling up big plants. LOL

Oh yeah, I've seen that one! LOL

Dang - I'm really gonna feed feed feed and see what happens with ours! But....maybe I'll put it in a pot! :)

If you haven't thrown out the ashes from your fireplaces and woodstoves...scratch it in periodically for your nanas...they love it.
